Marvel movies have had their most glorious decade, and usually we would define 2008's Iron Man as the beginning of the Marvel cinematic era, but before that there was actually a very good Marvel movie, not Spider-Man or X-Men, but Blade in 1998, and now it's the 25th anniversary of the film's release.
Comic book (superhero) movies go through different periods on the screen, each with distinctive characteristics. Throughout the 90s comic book movies presented violent and bloody and dark styles, including 1991's "Rocketeer", 1992's "Batman Returns", 1993's "The Raven", 1994's "Strange in Disguise", 1995's "SWAT Judge", 1997's "Men in Black".
Of course, it also includes this "Blade Warrior" released in 1998, and this Marvel's "Blade Warrior" is undoubtedly the best in the entire ninety years of comic book movies, because this movie is more bloody and cool, and even led the style of comic book movies in the first decade of the 21st century.
Look at the comic book movies of the first decade of the 21st century: "Hellboy", "The Punisher", "Watchmen", "Constantine", "Sin City" and even "X-Men" later, Nolan's "Batman". These movies were actually influenced by this "Blade", and these comic books all feature anti-hero characters or have wonderful anti-hero characters. Even that cool black trench coat affects the abyss, as you can see in the next release of "The Matrix" and "Legend of the Night". The superheroes of this era are very different from the "Iron Man", "Superman", and "Spider-Man" we saw later.
The first "Blade Warrior" was directed by Stephen Norrington, David M. S. Goyer served as screenwriter. And David S. S. Goyer also served as the screenwriter of Nolan's version of the Batman trilogy, so it can be briefly summarized as without "Blade" there may not be the later success of "Batman". Because Nolan's "Batman" is not perfect and even very violent.
Wesley Snipes starred in this "Blade Warrior", in the era when superhero movies were not really popular, Wesley Snipes gave "Blade Warrior" a new definition, when we talk about the screen image of "Blade Warrior" again, the first reaction in your mind is Wesley Snipes, of course, it can only be him. A lot of times when we talk about movies and characters we talk about mutual achievements, but this Blade is entirely accomplished by Wesley Snipes.
If you're tired of superheroes flying away to save the world, this Blade Warrior is definitely worth revisiting. There's everything in this movie that can appeal to you: blood, violence, love, vampires, and cool action.
The reboot of Blade has been discussed for many years and is still on hold. Starring Oscar winner Mahersala Ali, to be honest, I am looking forward to it but it is difficult to raise interest, because this rebooted version of "Blade" will continue Marvel's "kid-friendly" movie style for nearly a decade, completely departing from the R style of 25 years. What we really need is still a cool, edgy and violent vampire hunter.
