According to US media reports on July 10, the 59-year-old former US gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar, who was sentenced to 175 years in prison for sexually assaulting more than 100 women, was stabbed 10 times in prison, including 2 knives in the neck, 2 knives in the back and 6 knives in the chest. Nassar's lung collapsed when he was sent to the hospital, and he is now in stable condition after rescue.
US media said that Nassar was stabbed during an argument with another prisoner, and the identity of the prisoner involved was not disclosed for privacy. No staff or other prisoners were injured, an internal investigation is ongoing, and officials have not released further details.
A former sports medicine physician at USA Gymnastics Federation and Michigan State University, Nassar was a team doctor on the U.S. women's gymnastics team at four Olympic Games, and for more than 20 years continued to sexually assault young female athletes in the name of healing, including Olympic gold medalists such as gymnasts Simone Biles, Ellie Reisman and McKella Maroney.
In January 2018, Nassar was sentenced to 40 to 175 years in federal prison, followed by an additional 40 to 125 years in state prison for pleading guilty to three other sexual assault charges, meaning he will spend the rest of his life behind walls. There were 156 plaintiffs who testified about Nassar's criminal acts during the trial, most of them minors.
Upon learning of this, some victims said they would never support violence because it was morally wrong and death was an easy way out for Nassar.
