In 2018, 36Kr launched the list of "Most Popular Investors/Investment Institutions for Entrepreneurs" for the first time. We are trying to understand: in addition to capital and performance, what other reasons affect the evaluation and choice of an investor by entrepreneurs? In the past six years, we have received many answers from countless entrepreneurs.
At the inaugural "Waves New Wave 2023" conference, the answer to this question was answered by two more.
One investor with a successful entrepreneurial experience recalls his entrepreneurial days: "If you only talk to me about money, I don't like it. I like investors who are smarter than me. There are so many questions about entrepreneurship that you don't know the answers. I love talking to them, and they always have a way to think outside the box and inspire me. ”
In the mouth of the founder of the "post-00s" who talked to the above-mentioned investors, the answer was: "Some investors commented that post-00s entrepreneurs dare to act. We really don't have any baggage for failure and dare to try new things. So we want investors to join us in facing this possibility and fear. Sharing common beliefs is the greatest prerequisite. ”
The tide is surging, the wind is rotating, and the rhythm of funds and assets is generally slowing down. "Intellectual inspiration", "consensus of faith", "spiritual companionship", etc., have become more important things for entrepreneurs - which is why the list of "most popular investors/investment institutions for entrepreneurs" has always existed.
Since March this year, 36Kr Venture Capital Research Institute has collected data of investment institutions through questionnaire surveys, data platforms and other channels, communicated and visited entrepreneurs, and conducted cross-verification. Finally, the list of "Most Popular Investors/Investment Institutions for Entrepreneurs" and "Most Influenced/Growing" investment institutions for the class of 2023 was generated.
In terms of data, we focus on: the number and total amount of funds raised; The number and total amount of investment projects, the number of lead investment projects, and the number of star projects; the growth and book income of projects under management; and exit modalities (IPO exits, other exits) and exit actual allocations. It is worth mentioning that this survey questionnaire takes each fund and each project managed by the investment institution as the key observation subject, penetrates into a single transaction, and forms four progressive levels of "institution-fund-project-transaction".
In addition, the evaluation period of the "Most Popular Entrepreneurs" series of rosters is within 4 years (2019-2022), focusing on the two dimensions of fundraising and investment (accounting for 60%). The "Most Impactful/Growing" series of lists focuses on the overall performance of investment institutions throughout 2022.
