So for different brands and different price models, is the actual use effect of the wireless charging function consistent? This time, we will conduct wireless charging performance tests for 10 popular models of different price points that have been launched in the past year, covering independent, joint venture and imported brands, and find answers through the comparison of test results.

  1. Test equipment and process

  In order to simulate the real use environment, we used two mobile phones, Apple iPhone 13 Pro and Huawei P50 Pro, as fixed test machines. During the test, the charging efficiency of the two mobile phones was tested by first depleting the power and then placed on the on-board wireless charging pad for 15 minutes. After charging, use an infrared thermometer to measure the back of both phones to test the heat generation of the fuselage.

  After actual measurements, SAIC Roewe RX9, NIO ET5 and BMW 7 Series all support Apple's fast charging protocol, so the test results are satisfactory, and the charging amount within 15 minutes has reached or exceeded 10%, and the charging efficiency is even higher than the direct use of wireless chargers. In contrast, the Deep Blue SL03, Changan Yida and Wei brand Blue Mountain DHT-PHEV are obviously not very friendly to Apple's iPhone 13 Pro, with a 15-minute charge of 3%, which is a big gap compared to other test models.

  In the test for Huawei P50 Pro, the navy SL03, Weipai Blue Mountain DHT-PHEV and BMW 7 series all support Huawei's fast charging protocol, so the charging capacity in 15 minutes also reaches or exceeds 10%, and the test results are significantly higher than other test models. In contrast, FAW Audi Q4 e-tron and Changan Yida ranked bottom in the test, both with a charge capacity of 5%.

  Overall, the BMW 7 Series supported by both Apple and Huawei fast charging protocols performed well in this test link, and after charging Apple's iPhone 13 Pro and Huawei P50 Pro for 15 minutes, the power reached 10%. The comprehensive performance of Changan Yida, BYD Seagull and FAW Audi Q4 e-tron is slightly inferior to other test models, and the charging test link is not very friendly to Apple iPhone 13 Pro and Huawei P50 Pro, which shows that the wireless charging function of these three models does not support any fast charging protocol.

  In terms of body heat, when charging Apple's iPhone 13 Pro, there are three models with a temperature difference of more than 10 degrees Celsius, namely BYD Seagull, Audi A8L and Weipai Blue Mountain DHT-PHEV. Among them, the temperature of the mobile phones of BYD Seagull and Audi A8L after charging for 15 minutes exceeded 40 degrees Celsius, and it felt slightly hot. It is worth mentioning that FAW Audi Q4 e-tron has excellent temperature control during the use of wireless charging, and the temperature difference before and after charging the mobile phone is only 1 degree Celsius, which is significantly better than other test models.

  When charging Huawei P50 Pro, the temperature difference between BYD Seagull and Wei brand Blue Mountain DHT-PHEV is also significantly higher than other test models. In particular, the latter is the only model with a temperature difference of more than 10 degrees Celsius among all the tested models, which shows that its temperature control for wireless charging of mobile phones of the two brands is not ideal. In contrast, the NIO ET5 performed well in this test link, with a temperature difference of only 0.5 degrees Celsius before and after mobile phone charging, significantly ahead of other test models. In addition, FAW Audi Q4 e-ton, BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV also have remarkable performance in controlling the temperature of mobile phone charging, and the difference before and after charging is controlled within 3 degrees Celsius.

  Overall, FAW Audi Q4 e-tron performed well in this test link, whether charging Apple iPhone 13 Pro or Huawei P50 Pro, the temperature difference was controlled at a low level. In addition, the temperature difference between the BMW 7 Series when charging the two mobile phones is controlled within 6 degrees Celsius, and its performance is also worthy of recognition.

  In the comparison of wireless charging functions, it can be found that 4 of the 10 models support manual shutdown of the wireless charging function, of which the Audi brand model has performed remarkably, whether it is the flagship sedan A8L, or the relatively entry-level pure electric vehicle FAW Audi Q4 e-tron, can be manually turned off. The navy SL03 and Changan Yida, which are also under the Changan brand, have mixed performances, the former provides a manual switch, while the latter may not be equipped due to its entry-level status. In addition, the Weipai Blue Mountain DHT-PHEV also supports manual shutdown function. However, the wireless charging function switches of these 4 models are integrated in the vehicle system, which needs to be operated through the central control screen, and if it can be equipped with independent physical buttons, it must be more convenient to operate.

  Summary:

  On the whole, the more prominent performance of the 10 models participating in the test comparison is the BMW 7 series, which not only has high charging efficiency, but also can effectively control the heat of the mobile phone, but it is a pity that the wireless charging function cannot be turned off manually. In contrast, the overall performance of Changan Yida and BYD Seagull is more crotch-pulling, not only ranking bottom in charging efficiency, but also having certain problems in controlling the heat of mobile phones. It should be noted that the wireless charging function of these two models does not support manual shutdown. It is not difficult to find that the performance of wireless charging is related to the model brand and price, but it is not a necessary condition. The performance of the Audi A8L participating in the comparison this time is somewhat surprising. As a luxury brand model priced at more than one million, the performance of Audi A8L in the two test links of mobile phone charging and calorific generation is somewhat unsatisfactory, which has lost its flagship status. But fortunately, it supports the manual shutdown of the wireless charging function, which can also be regarded as a return to the city. In addition, through testing, we also found that the wireless charging function of some models only supports a single fast charging protocol such as Apple or Huawei, which will have a certain impact on the charging efficiency of different brands of mobile phones, and the compatibility needs to be improved.
