At present, the author has a total of three high-end (flagship) machines - Xiaomi 13Ultra, iPhone 14Pro and Xiaomi Mi 13.
If we only discuss recognition, I personally think that Xiaomi Mi 13Ultra is taller overall, with a large round DECO design, stepped shape, plus a special color matching, and the recognition is full.
However, if we focus on the texture level, the iPhone 14 Pro still wins, which is not my opinion, and most of the people around me also hold this view.
Among them, the obvious gap is reflected in the middle frame material, the integrated processing of the back, the processing of the lens, etc. at the level of details. There is no doubt that the Pro version of the textured iPhone series is still the ceiling of the current smartphone, and the only one comparable to it is the Ultra model of the Samsung S series.
But let me first state that this conclusion is only for the Pro version (the highest-end iPhone at this stage). If we compare the standard version of the iPhone with the Android flagship, I can tell you very responsibly that the iPhone really has no advantages, or even all disadvantages.
As shown in the figure below, this is the comparison between the OPPO Find X2 Pro and iPhone 12 taken by the author in 2020, in terms of texture alone, iPhone 12 really has no advantages in front of contemporary Android flagships, and it is the same now.
Many people attribute Apple's advantages in texture to Apple's extremely high requirements for details and quality, which is indeed fine, Apple's requirements for the products supplied by suppliers are almost harsh, and Apple is also very willing to pay for some aspects that he thinks.
For example, in order to polish two different materials on a piece of glass, it can be said that the cost of the glass behind the iPhone 11proMax reached 300+ yuan ($49.5), which was more expensive than the screen used by many Android flagships at that time.
In industrial manufacturing, high price equals quality. Take Foxconn, for example, it itself has many different grades of OEM costs corresponding to different quality control standards.
But is this the essential reason? Of course not, for example, the overall workmanship texture of Samsung's flagship mobile phone is not inferior to the top model of the iPhone.
So what is the reason for this? In fact, it is very simple, in the final analysis, there are two - "terminal price" and "single sales".
Let's start with the selling price.
The current price of Android flagship is indeed very high, Xiaomi 13Ultra, OPPO Find X6Pro, VIVO X90Pro+ The starting price of these three Android flagships is all between 6000 yuan and 6500 yuan.
This may seem tall, but when compared to the top flagships of Apple and Samsung, it is really small.
The release price of the iPhone 14Pro is 7999 yuan, and it is still 128G (domestic flagships are from 256G), and ProMax is from 8999. As for Samsung's own straight-screen flagship Samsung S23Ultra, the starting price of the National Bank is 8999 yuan (8+256G)
The price of Samsung and Apple flagships is generally about 2000-3000 yuan more expensive than domestic flagships, which is already a very large price difference, and it is normal to have texture and workmanship differences.
If you compare Apple and Samsung products (iPhone 14, Samsung S23) at the same price as domestic flagships, you will find that the difference in texture between them is really not much, and domestic flagships even have advantages.
Then let's talk about single-machine shipments.
According to the data released by Omdia in 2021, in 2020, the sales of iPhone 11 reached 65.8 million units, and the total sales volume in its life cycle can roughly exceed 100 million units, and the median sales of its previous generations can basically be maintained at about 50 million units.
In contrast, the total sales of the best high-end machine sold in domestic history, Huawei Mate30 series, only exceeded 12 million units (there are records), and the current sales of other high-end Android machines in China are basically at the level of millions, and the gap between the iPhone is obvious.
Extremely high monomer shipments can bring two obvious benefits - "reduced monomer costs" and "more voice".
This is actually very understandable, just like retail and wholesale, the more you buy, the more you buy, the cost of procurement will naturally decrease, and your position in the buying and selling relationship will also increase.
Being able to become Apple's core supply means great rewards for any related company, and they are naturally willing to "go to the soup" for Apple.
A very direct example - interior design. Apple's interior design is a work of art, with neat placement of components and uniform colors.
A very important reason why Apple has been able to achieve this level is "highly customized", using customized components to make the internal stack more neat.
Take linear motors, Apple has always been a customized model (customized size according to Apple's requirements), and domestic models generally use universal models.
In short, Apple's design-driven component design; Domestic mobile phone manufacturers are based on the shape of the parts to carry out internal design, Apple naturally has more advantages.
Of course, Android mobile phone manufacturers can also spend money on customization, but because there is no amount of accumulation, its cost will be very high, and eventually bring about an increase in the cost of the whole machine, which is naturally undesirable for mobile phone manufacturers.
In short, the difference in quality between Android flagships and Apple boils down to the difference in cost and sales.
