Covering 1,500 universities across 104 higher education systems, the rankings are based on an analysis of more than 17.5 million academic papers and professional opinions from more than 240,000 academics and employers
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) topped the list for the 12th consecutive year, Cambridge remained in No. 2 in the world, and the University of Oxford moved up one place from last year to No. 3 in the world. Peking University is the only Chinese (mainland) university in the top 20 in the world, ranking 17th in the world.
Ranking method
This year, QS made the greatest ever improvements to its ranking methodology, introducing 3 new indicators: Sustainability, Employment Outcomes and International Research Networks. In addition, the weighting of some existing indicators has been recalibrated, including academic reputation indicators, employer reputation indicators, and student-teacher ratio indicators.
01Sustainability
Global universities are increasingly focused on sustainability issues and aware of the impact universities can have on the world, and students expect universities to address issues related to social and climate justice. According to the 2022 QS International Student Survey, 80% of students believe universities should take more responsibility for environmental issues.
In response to this call, QS has added a 5% sustainability indicator to the World University Rankings, the first ranking body to reflect in mainstream university rankings the key role of universities in planning for the future and driving change for a sustainable future.
02 Employability
QS continues to strengthen its research on employability, becoming the only mainstream ranking body to include the importance of employability in the ranking indicator. To achieve this, QS increased the weight of employer reputation to 15% and increased the weight of 5% of employment outcomes.
03 International Research Network
This indicator provides insight into how faculty research is aligned with international standards and the importance of collaborative research. The QS World University Rankings introduce the International Research Network indicator in the comprehensive assessment to more fully assess the degree of international cooperation of the Faculty.

01 Performance of Chinese University Rankings
Chinese universities (mainland) rank third in the world in terms of the number of universities in the ranking, with 71 universities in the ranking, behind the United States (199) and the United Kingdom (91). Ranked 17th in the world, Peking University is the second highest ranked institution in Asia. Ranked 25th in the world, Tsinghua University is the third highest ranked school in Asia.
A total of five universities in Hong Kong, China, are ranked in the world's top 100, with the exception of Hong Kong Polytechnic which remained unchanged at 65th in the world, while the rest of the rankings have declined.
Macau institutions in China have moved up the QS World University Rankings, with the University of Macau ranking 254th; Macau University of Science and Technology ranked 505th! You must know that last year the University of Macau ranked 304th; Macau University of Science and Technology ranked 581-590!
02UK University Rankings Performance
The University of Cambridge remains the first in the UK, followed by Oxford in third, Imperial College London in sixth and University College London in ninth.
The University of Manchester fell out of the top 30 to rank 32nd.
Xie Da fell out of the top 100, and Xie Da, who ranked 16th in the UK and 96th in the world last year, fell out of the world's top 100 this year, ranking 104th in the world.
Nuoda returned to the world's top 100, rising 14 places in one fell swoop, and became the biggest winner under QS's new ranking methodology.
LSE rose 11 places in the ranking, surpassing the previous three years, the University of Leeds rose 11 places, overtaking Guerra and Nanan, and Durham University rose 14 places, away from the "goalkeeper" position.
In addition, the University of Bristol (up 6 places), the University of Glasgow (up 5 places) and the University of Birmingham (up 7 places) also improved their rankings.
03 Performance of US college rankings
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States continues to make history, ranking as the hegemon of QS comprehensive ranking for 12 consecutive years, and its status is unrivaled.
Harvard ranked No. 4, followed by Stanford, followed by California, Berkeley, which jumped to the top 10 from 27 last year, and Cornell, which advanced directly from 20 to 12.
Caltech and Yale University tied for 15th, and the public university - Los Angeles, California finally broke into the Top 30.

04Australian University Ranking Performance
Australian institutions have improved the most in the rankings, with all eight Australian universities ranking among the world's top 100 lists. In addition to the Australian National University ranking which dropped 4 places, the University of Melbourne and the University of Sydney improved 19 and 22 places respectively to enter the world's top 20, and Monash University entered the world's top 50. The most amazing is the University of Technology Sydney, which jumped 47 places to rank 90th among the world's top 100. This wave of Australian colleges is really winning!

05Singapore University Rankings
In this ranking, the National University of Singapore can be said to be a "god in World War I"! Ranked in the top 10 in the overall list, 8th in the world! The highest ranked institution in Asia.
But Nanyang Technological University, the good brother of the new state, has slipped a little bit in the ranking, from 19th last year to 26th this year!
Singapore Management University ranked 429; And the Singapore University of Science and Design, the fourth public university established in Singapore, also entered the list this time, ranking 545!
06Malaysian University Rankings
The University of Malaya (UM) maintained its position as the number one university in Malaysia for a consecutive period, rising slightly from 70th to 65th place.
Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) improved its ranking from 143rd in 2023 to 137th in 2024.
Putra University Malaysia (UPM) saw a significant drop in the ranking, from 123rd in 2023 to 158th in 2024.
Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) also dropped from 129th in 2023 to 159th in 2024.
Universiti Malaysia's (UTM) ranking improved from 203rd in 2023 to 188th in 2024.
The Thai University ranking is unchanged and is still 284th.
UCSI dropped slightly to 300.
