A total of 16 teams participated in the U17 Asian Cup, divided into four groups, the top two in each group advanced to the knockout rounds, and the top four qualified for the U17 World Cup, the World Junior Championship.
In Group A, Thailand topped the table with 9 points from 3 wins, Yemen ranked second with 6 points, Malaysia 3 points and Laos with 0 points.
In Group B, Iran won 2 wins, 1 draw and won 7 points, while South Korea finished second with 2 wins, 1 loss and 6 points, Afghanistan 3 points, Qatar 1 point, both out.
