Starting from Bayanhot Town, Alxa Zuoqi, Inner Mongolia, all the way north, the bustling and lively towns gradually faded away, and sparse camel thorns loomed in the desert.
Yingen Sumu is located in the depths of the sea of sand, nearly 300 kilometers from Bayanhot town. In early summer, the maximum wind force here can still reach 9.
The sand hit the face of Xu Naichao, a police officer at the Yingen Border Police Station of the Alxa Border Management Detachment of the Inner Mongolia Entry-Exit Border Inspection General Station. He wrapped up his coat and reinforced the network signal amplifier standing in the northwest corner of the police office against the strong wind, to prevent the surrounding area from being disconnected due to the failure of the amplifier.
In February 2022, the Alxa Border Management Detachment set up a border police office in the Yingen Sumu border area, and Xu Naichao was the first to sign up. The veteran of border guards has been guarding the desert border in western Inner Mongolia since joining the army in 2008. At the beginning of 2019, the public security border defense force was reformed, and Xu Naichao, who retired from active duty, chose to stay on the border line to work.
Xu Naichao's wife, Li Wenna, was once an auxiliary police officer in the command center of the Alxa Zuoqi Public Security Bureau, and now she is guarding this distant "border husband and wife police office" with her husband. The couple are responsible for border management and public security control of the 3,145-square-kilometer border management area and 103-kilometer border line of Yingen Sumu, the left banner of Alxa.
In May this year, Xu Naichao won the 27th "May Fourth Medal of Chinese Youth". "Actually, I am an ordinary immigration management policeman, and I do the most ordinary and grassroots border management work." Xu Naichao said.
Youth without regrets, rooted in the border
Xu Naichao is a post-90s generation, but the wind and sand blowing in the desert during the 15 years of guarding the border pass makes him look bigger than his peers.
In addition to the raging wind and sand, Xu Naichao also had a special experience in his military career. In 2014, when China's second formed police unit to Liberia, Xu Naichao volunteered, "I know what I have to face when I go to Liberia, but I am willing to go out for peace." ”
In the past nine months, Xu Naichao and his comrades completed important tasks such as stationing at designated points, joint patrols, and aerial reconnaissance in distant West Africa, and handled many emergencies. One United Nations Peace Medal and one Chinese Peacekeeping Police Medal of Honor have become testimony to Xu Naichao's mission of peace in a foreign land.
In 2019, with the reform of the public security border defense force, Xu Naichao took off the "olive green" and put on the "navy blue". Xu Naichao, who could have returned to his hometown of Hohhot with honor for resettlement, became an immigration management policeman of the Alxa Border Management Detachment with love for his second hometown Alxa.
At the beginning of 2022, when it was learned that the detachment planned to set up a border police office in the Yingen Sumu border area, Xu Naichao signed up. Worried that his newlywed wife Li Wenna would not agree, he tossed and turned, and sent his wife a long WeChat message.
That was the first time after the marriage that the wives did not respond to messages in time. For a whole night, Xu Naichao felt like a century. Early the next morning, Li Wenna called: "You ask the team, can you apply, let's go together!" ”
"He guards the side, I guard him. Where he is, he is home. Li Wenna is not without concern about her parents' body and the desolation of the Gobi, but the lack of separation after marriage makes her choose to accompany her husband, "so that we will no longer have to live apart." ”
Soon after, the first "Border Husband and Wife Police Office" in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region was established in the depths of the Gobi.
The protection of the edge of the sky, the intimate companionship
Recalling the scene when she first came to the police office, Li Wenna remembered it vividly——
Driving from Bayanhot Town, Li Wenna happily looked forward to the future of her small family along the way. Although she expected the difficult conditions in the police office, Li Wenna was very content to be able to be with her husband.
At first, scattered houses could be seen on the side of the road. Slowly, Li Wenna's eyes were only desolate.
After bumpy all the way, along the "washboard road" to the police office, looking at the row of brick houses on the Gobi Desert and the sparse camel thorns around, Li Wenna, who thought she was mentally prepared, still cried.
Under the comfort of her husband, Li Wenna wiped away her tears, packed her luggage, and proposed to eat a hot pot to celebrate a memorable day. The couple prepared the ingredients and put them in the pot and just boiled for a while, when the entire police office suddenly fell into darkness. It turned out that the police office relied on solar power to maintain daily power supply with only 4 sets of batteries, and the induction cooker ran out of electricity after ten minutes of work.
The couple had to light a flashlight and cook the ingredients with what little gas remained in the house. "If you can't eat hot pot, it's good to change it to spicy hot." Li Wenna said with a helpless smile.
Five brick houses, one pot, two people, one dog and one car, is a true portrayal of the "husband and wife police office". draft, to the border company 20 km away to pull; To eat food, you have to rely on the police station 85 kilometers away; Communication, relying on signal expanders to maintain network signals... At night, when the wind and sand are strong, the couple wear masks to sleep, and the biting cold wind pours in through the cracks in the doors and windows.
"The Yingen Border Police Station has a large area and is too far away to deal with police situations, so the higher authorities set up a border police office. There is no small matter at the border, here is only 7 kilometers from the border line in a straight line, we can get there as soon as possible. Therefore, although the conditions are a little more difficult, as a grassroots civilian police, it is my duty to stay here. Xu Naichao said, "I don't come to do the side work, and there will be other people." So many seniors can stick to the frontiers of the motherland, I am so young, I should contribute something. ”
However, Xu Naichao still felt indebted to his wife. The 13th day of the establishment of the police office coincided with Li Wenna's birthday. Xu Naichao, the "straight man of steel" in his wife's eyes, drove hundreds of kilometers to buy her a birthday cake and celebrated his wife's birthday. Every morning, after raising the national flag, Xu Naichao and his wife clean up the thick sand accumulated in the yard the night before, check the wind-solar hybrid power generation equipment and signal amplifiers, and then visit the herders in their jurisdiction.
With a radius of more than 30 kilometers, 8 households and 27 herders "visit in one day." Soon after the establishment of the police office, Xu Naichao quickly became familiar with the specific location of the eight herdsmen's homes. For the couple, these herders are "fortresses" guarding the border and moving "sentinels". More importantly, they are the couple's closest neighbors and closest "family".
At the beginning of the establishment of the police office, the herdsmen heard the sound and welcomed the couple in their own unique way. Afraid that the two would get cold at night, Ntugzhile sent firewood; Afraid that the police office would have no water to eat, Hu Ridai sent a cart of drinking water; Afraid that they would not be able to eat, Hu Richa wrapped the dumplings and sent them to the police office... The simple herders did everything they could to help the couple put down roots in the Gobi Desert.
"Whoever is good to the masses, the masses are close to whom." This sentence in Li Wenna's diary speaks the hearts of the couple.
Although there are few people in the police office, there are many things. Every spring and summer, wild Chinese medicinal herbs such as cistanche on the Gobi Desert attract outsiders to dig and steal them. Due to their location on the front lines of the border, mobile personnel also put a lot of pressure on border control. "It's not enough for us to do it here. We signed joint logistics and joint construction agreements with border defense companies, judicial offices, village committees, etc., and established four mass prevention and mass management organizations, mobilizing border residents to participate in border governance. Xu Naichao said.
However, the daily work of the police office is mostly to help the parents of the herdsmen. Watering trees, feeding sheep, cutting camel hair, delivering medicine... From language barriers to understanding keywords, the couple who have made rapid progress have also changed from "outsiders" to "intimate people" of the herders.
Jiao Duowen, a herder in the prefecture, and his wife make a living by raising sheep. Due to their growing age, their children have been absent for many years, and the many heavy tasks accumulated in the family have damaged the old couple. After learning of this situation, Xu Naichao and his wife formed a helping pair with the old couple, and regularly visited their homes to help them feed the sheep and clean the sheepfold.
Ao Yun Gaova, who is over the age of antiquity, suffers from chronic diseases in old age and needs frequent physiotherapy. Xu Naichao took the initiative to apply to his superiors to set up a convenience clinic, equipped with a batch of physiotherapy equipment and standing medicines, and Li Wenna, who graduated from medical nursing, helped Ao Yun Gaova undergo rehabilitation physiotherapy, which greatly alleviated her condition.
Recently, Li Wenna was waiting to give birth in Alxa Zuoqi. "After the baby is born, Wenna will return." Xu Naichao and his wife have more plans, "At present, a supermarket has been opened here, and an express delivery point has been set up, let's think about how to make people's lives more convenient..."
The couple's wish is to make the herdsmen in the precinct live a better life.
