The disaster was very serious, but the people of Dazhai were not discouraged, they did not want state relief funds, relief grain, relief materials, self-reliance, hard struggle, and only one year to heal this devastating disaster. Their advanced deeds have aroused the great attention of the central and local governments at all levels. In order to inspire the people of the whole country to work hard, speed up the development of agricultural production, and struggle against the harsh nature and all difficulties, the central authorities have put forward the call of "agricultural science villages."
In 1964, when Tao Ludi, secretary of the Shanxi Provincial Party Committee, held a meeting in Beijing, Premier Zhou gave Shanxi a task, asking Shanxi to write a script reflecting Dazhai, and the North Film Studio to shoot it.
