On the occasion of the unveiling of the highly anticipated Tiankai Garden, Tianjin University used a series of "firsts" to show the genes of China's first government-run university that have lasted for more than 100 years - innovation and hard work.

"Be the first partner on the road of alumni entrepreneurship." This is the mantra of Liu Yi, dean of Xuanhuai College of Tianjin University. He is the first private entrepreneur in mainland China to serve as the dean of a university entrepreneurship college. Under his suggestion, Beiyang Haitang Venture Capital Fund, initiated by well-known alumni of Tianjin University, used the power of capital to accelerate the transformation of scientific and technological achievements and solve the problem of "last mile" of scientific and technological achievements.

Every month, investors will visit the laboratory and communicate with researchers under the guidance of the alumni association, cooperation office, technology transfer center and other departments. Well-trained "matchmakers" have a keen sense of smell and can help entrepreneurs quickly find scientific research projects of interest.

While researching and promoting improvement and innovation, Tianjin University simplifies the approval procedures and shortens the process for the transformation of scientific and technological achievements on campus for entrepreneurial teachers, students and alumni, and opens an on-campus "green channel" for intellectual property rights to be invested in shares. The university is the first university in Tianjin to adopt the mode of investing in the price of scientific and technological achievements of colleges and universities.

Through continuous research and analysis, this year Tianjin University will also introduce measures to increase the proportion of income retained by the transformation of achievements in the Tiankai Park project, gradually improve the management methods of Tianjin University's achievement transformation, and arrange special personnel to provide one-to-one services for each settled team in the first batch.

He led the team to develop the world's first small-caliber artificial blood vessel with accurate visualization in vivo, which has completed preclinical biosafety performance testing and large-animal experiments. There are about 330 million cardiovascular disease patients in China, and Li Shuangyang hopes that through his research, cardiovascular disease patients can use high-quality and low-cost domestic advanced products as soon as possible.

However, the product development cycle is long, the investment is large, and the risk is high. Li Shuangyang said frankly that if the product is put into large-scale production, it is still necessary to take the "last mile" of industrialization, and this student team still faces many practical problems.

With the help of the Tianda Alumni Foundation, Li Shuangyang obtained several million yuan of angel investment intentions, and also planned to build a 10,000-level clean workshop in Tiankai Park.

In order to help more start-up scientific research teams take the first step of innovation and entrepreneurship, Tianjin University has built an innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem composed of "nine ones" such as venture capital fund group, innovation and entrepreneurship courses, entrepreneurship competitions, and entrepreneurship acceleration camps to help teachers and students master more comprehensive entrepreneurial knowledge and capabilities.

Tianjin University alumni entrepreneurs raised 10 million yuan as a special fund to reward outstanding projects of college students; Donate 36 million yuan to fully support the construction and development of entrepreneurship colleges, and support young people to pursue their dreams with real money.

The atmosphere of innovation and entrepreneurship affects every teacher and student on campus. Tianjin University has issued a policy to support students to retain their student status and leave school to start a business, and in-service faculty and staff can leave their posts to start a business, and encourage some faculty and staff with enthusiasm and ability for innovation and entrepreneurship to work part-time in enterprises.
