One day in 1973, a grand wedding was held in Taiwan. Eighty-six-year-old Chiang Kai-shek attended his grandson's wedding, but he could no longer stand on his own, his hands being pulled by duct tape and fixed to the armrests of his wheelchair. The young and strong Chiang Kai-shek, who was once famous abroad for his perseverance and courage with his reform aspirations, has become weak and powerless.
Chiang Kai-shek and his wife Soong Meiling sit together, and in the footage captured by the camera, they are an enviable old husband and wife. However, the former national leader and his wife have been separated for many years. Their affection used to be a good story, but in 1942, a meeting between Chiang Kai-shek and his ex-wife Chen Jieru aroused Soong Meiling's jealousy, and their relationship has changed since then.
Soong Meiling left Chiang Kai-shek and flew to the United States, where she found that she could no longer rely on others, she needed her own strength. She began to support her brothers and sisters, Kong Lingkan and Kong Lingjun, who began their own historical stage journey. However, the Kong brothers and sisters did not behave as they expected, and their behavior disgusted Chiang Kai-shek.
Kong Lingkan, who had been spoiled to the point of being unable to restrain his behavior, angered Chiang Ching-kuo, who could only arrest him. Kong Lingkan's actions aroused the anger of Soong Meiling, and she decided to come forward and put pressure on Chiang Kai-shek and Chiang Ching-kuo to release Kong Lingkan.
However, the matter of the Kong siblings is not over. Kong Lingjun invited a black doctor to treat Chiang Kai-shek's prostatitis. The doctor promised that Chiang Kai-shek's condition would be completely cured with just one minor operation.
However, the doctor's technique did not not only fail to cure Chiang Kai-shek's disease, but also damaged Chiang Kai-shek's urethra, as he promised. Every spring, Chiang Kai-shek suffered from urinary incontinence, and every time he had an attack, he had to go out with a urine bag. This situation was unacceptable, and Chiang Kai-shek's dislike of the Kong siblings deepened.
As time passed, Chiang Kai-shek's illness intensified and his physical condition deteriorated. In 1969, Chiang Kai-shek suffered a serious car accident, his heart was severely sentenced, and since then, he has been in and out of the hospital frequently, becoming a frequent visitor to the hospital. During this time, his relationship with Song Meiling also deteriorated, and the contradictions between the two escalated again.
At this time, Chiang Kai-shek suddenly became ill, had difficulty breathing, and finally fainted. Soong Meiling seized this opportunity and hoped to restore her relationship with Chiang Kai-shek through this illness. She found a cardiologist in the United States to treat Chiang Kai-shek with a newly developed drug, and he successfully recovered.
However, although Chiang Kai-shek's life was extended, his physical condition remained worrying. His body was bedridden for a long time, his muscles were atrophied, and his weight was reduced to 46 kilograms, which was already at the point of his old age.
However, at her grandson's wedding, in order to make Chiang Kai-shek appear more energetic, Soong Meiling fixed Chiang Kai-shek's hands on the chair with tape, so that his back was leaning against the chair, looking like he was sitting. Then she changed Chiang Kai-shek into a set of spiritual clothes, which made him look a little angry.
This scene was captured by the photographer and became a picture in people's memories. Looking at this photo, we can see the grandson and granddaughter-in-law behind Chiang Kai-shek, who are joyful and full of life. And Chiang Kai-shek and his wife Soong Meiling sat on the side, although they had been separated for many years, but at this important moment, they still sat together and shared the joy of family.
However, this is only a superficial scene, and Chiang Kai-shek behind him is already physically and mentally exhausted, and his life is nearing the end. His body continued to weaken every day until April 5, 1975, when his heart suddenly stopped beating, and despite the efforts of doctors to save Chiang Kai-shek's life, he died at the age of 88.
