When his former friends and disciples came to visit him, and his wife wanted to ask them to find a better doctor, Wang Houjun strongly disagreed, not wanting to trouble others.
It can be said that in her last years, Wang Houjun was tortured by illness every day to the point that life was better than death. That's it, he was not willing to put down football, could not coach in the team, so he worked as a consultant for the Shanghai women's football team.
Because he knows that youth is the future of Chinese football, he opened a youth football class to care about the development of youth football in Shanghai; He also wrote articles published in the press to express his views on the development of football.
During his illness, there was not only physical and psychological torture, but also financial stress. After everyone knew about this, they held a fundraising event for him and raised a large amount of money for him. Wang Houjun still refused, saying that she still had medical insurance.
Everyone had no choice, so they set up the "Liu Jun Football Charity Fund" and told him that the money was specially used to help some old comrades in Shanghai football who needed help.
On November 21, 2012, Wang Houjun died of illness at the age of 69.
After knowing this sad news, the Chinese Football Association sent a message of condolence, "His death is a loss for the Shanghai football community, but also a loss for the Chinese football industry."
