The wind rises in June and the summer harvest is imminent. Located in Houtuo Village, Gaoling Township, Wangdu County, more than 1,000 acres of farmland, wheat waves rolling, beautiful as a picture. Over the wheat field, a drone is carrying out the "one spray and three prevention" spraying operation. With a rapid humming sound, pesticides are sprayed precisely on the crops, creating a fog curtain.
Standing on the edge of the field directing the drone operation is Huang Xiaosong, head of the high-quality agricultural technical service professional cooperative, with dark skin and capable work. He is an authentic farmer, an "advanced individual in national grain production" and the first "Baoding craftsman".
In the past ten years since he started farming, Huang Xiaosong has devoted himself to planting good crops - self-learning modern agricultural knowledge, making good use of advanced agricultural technology, developing smart agriculture, introducing a modern agricultural system with 5G intelligent control, equipped with intelligent sprinkler irrigation, water and fertilizer integration, real-time monitoring system and other intelligent facilities into the field, striving to improve the economic income of villagers, and composing a gorgeous chapter belonging to a farmer.
Study hard and practice hard to transform "mud legs" into "soil experts"
In 2008, Huang Xiaosong, who was in his early 30s, contracted 200 acres of idle farmland from fellow villagers, and since then he has started a farming life facing the loess with his back to the sky. At first, like his father's generation, he planted wheat and corn in traditional ways, invested a lot and suffered a lot, but the expected increase in production and income was never seen.
Seeing that it was difficult to live a good life by relying on the "old method", Huang Xiaosong began to seek a change. In his spare time, he worked hard to "nibble on books" and teach himself modern agricultural knowledge, and when he didn't understand, he ran to the technical service station of the county agricultural bureau to ask agricultural experts for advice. Over time, Huang Xiaosong gradually grew from a "mud leg" who could only bury his head in cultivation to a "soil expert" who knew how to scientifically select, fertilize, eliminate insects and water.
The effort pays off. After the farmland he tended, the wheat production increased by 15% the following year, and it was sold for 360 yuan per mu. This has strengthened Huang Xiaosong's confidence and determination to farm scientifically. In 2011, he contracted another 300 acres of land to grow vegetables and fruits in addition to traditional crops.
"Small farmers" integrated into "big agriculture"
Seeing that their lives have changed, the villagers are not having a good time. Most of the men gave up the idea of "gouging food in the soil" and went out to work to earn money, while the old and weak women and children who stayed at home had low working capacity, and a large area of land was idle, "one grass in three seasons, and yellow in winter".
Seeing that the land was abandoned, Huang Xiaosong saw it in his eyes and was anxious, and he decided to do something for the villagers. In May 2013, under the leadership of Huang Xiaosong, a high-quality agricultural technical service professional cooperative integrating agricultural development, land transfer, crop planting and planting technology research was formally established.
"Ten years ago, the establishment of cooperatives was a new thing for the villagers, and it was not recognized by everyone at once. Some people feel that they do not understand and trust the management of their fields to outsiders. ”
Recalling the beginning of the cooperative's establishment, Huang Xiaosong said with a smile: "At that time, I didn't explain much, so I decided to speak with facts and grow wheat in their respective fields with my fellow villagers." The same is a set of processes of sowing, fertilizing, watering and spraying, and the yield of my farmland is about 1130 jin when the wheat is harvested, while the mu yield of other farmers is only 800-900 jin. This has convinced many villagers that relying on agricultural knowledge and scientific farming can indeed increase production. ”
In order to further increase grain production, Huang Xiaosong opened up a 100-mu experimental field to find "golden seeds". The test field is divided into seven plots and seven different varieties of seeds are planted each year. Under the same soil, water and fertilizer, and management conditions, let the grain crops carry out yield "PK". The top three seeds in acre yield will be "contested" the following year, and the remaining four are replaced. Only seeds that have been at the top yield for three consecutive years will be used by cooperatives for large-scale planting.
Gradually, Huang Xiaosong's name as a "farming expert" spread, and he also won the trust of more and more villagers. The number of farmers who have invested in the cooperative has reached 102, and the cooperative has signed a trusteeship contract with the village collective, concentrating the land into square areas, and the cooperative provides "one-stop" services for planting, harvesting and selling, and the villagers live a good life of "lying down and sharing money".
Intelligent networking, "can farm" upgrades "smart farming"
With the application of technologies such as the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence to traditional agricultural production, various new technologies and new models have flocked to the field, making Huang Xiaosong immediately understand that "technology is the key to stable production and increased production".
In 2021, the cooperative actively embraced the agricultural Internet of Things and built a smart agriculture platform covering agricultural meteorological monitoring, field crop monitoring, farmland precision pesticide application, smart agricultural machinery and other modules to promote intelligent agricultural management and operation.
Through the agricultural meteorological monitoring system, real-time monitoring of air temperature, air humidity, light, wind speed, wind direction, rainfall, as well as soil temperature and humidity and other data is realized. The field crop monitoring system can use the mobile phone video monitoring APP to remotely monitor the growth of crops in the crop planting area. The Internet of Things and GPS monitoring system can integrate a series of information such as agricultural machinery operation order management, real-time monitoring, trajectory playback, area statistics, quality analysis and so on into the decision-making management platform to realize the digitalization of the whole process of agricultural production. In addition, there are unmanned driving, precision application, water and fertilizer integration, precision harvesting and other technologies, which greatly improve the operation accuracy and efficiency, and reduce input costs.
Today, the cooperative has built 2,000 mu of agricultural product planting base, 3,600 mu of land under full trusteeship, and 38,000 mu of socialized service area. In 2022, the operating income will reach 12.521 million yuan. The cooperative has established a strict financial management and benefit distribution system, and the average annual income of cooperative members has reached 27,000 yuan, which has greatly increased the economic income of farmers and has been widely praised by the masses. Huang Xiaosong was named the National Advanced Individual in Grain Production of the Year by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs for two consecutive years. The cooperative has also been rated as a national model agricultural cooperative. In 2022, the municipal party committee and municipal government named 206 comrades as the first "Baoding craftsmen", and Huang Xiaosong was among them.
