Yesterday (June 1) Variety magazine published an interview with Activision CEO Bobby Kotick. Some of his interviews sparked displeasure among many, including Activision Blizzard employees, including former World of Warcraft writer Eric Covington.
He left the company in April and, instead of voluntarily leaving, was fired from the company. On Twitter, he finally explained the reason for his expulsion.
After retweeting the article from "Variety", he showed a series of lines that he was responsible for in "World of Warcraft". These lines belong to the Character Venture Capital Company's Goblin Scraper. According to Eric, he wrote "some common jokes that satirize the greedy behavior common to businesses" and thought the lines fit perfectly with the greedy characters of these goblins. However, because "a certain executive" saw these lines while playing the game and felt ridiculed, he not only demanded that some lines be deleted, but also fired him.
In Eric's view, the leadership who thinks they are "yin and yang" by these jokes becomes the joke itself.
These lines include "Looks like I can buy a yacht again!" "It's time to get back to the office!" "Another record-breaking quarterly revenue!" "Thinking about what some of Blizzard executives say and do, it's no wonder they feel like they've been the object of ridicule.
In the follow-up to the tweet, he also said that these lines with ironic humor had been used by the World of Warcraft official for promotion, but after he pointed out that he was fired because of these lines, which was very hypocritical, the official removed the relevant promotional ads.
Eric says he's been at Blizzard for 9 years: "9 years of all the effort, just because someone saw their reflection in an innocuous joke, it all came to naught." Not only that, in order to prevent him from receiving the benefits that employees have, these people tried everything they could to fire him before the end of the month.
