Jia Ruoyu

Jia Ruoyu (1915-2016), formerly known as Jia Zhi, also known as Jia Ruoyu, was a native of Hejiang County, Sichuan Province.

In 1929, he was admitted to the Guizhou Provincial No. 2 Middle School in Chishui County, joined the Chinese Communist Youth League in 1931, was admitted to the Chengdu Sichuan Provincial Senior High School in 1932, and was sent by the Communist Youth League organization to the Guizhou warlord army in 1933 to do military transport, in 1935 he led the machine gun company of the 85th Division of the Qian Army to participate in the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army, and in 1936 he became a member of the Communist Party of China. He successively served as the military chief instructor and chief instructor of the Red 6th Army Teaching Regiment, the staff officer of the headquarters of the Red 6th Army, the chief of the command section of the superior cadres of the Red Army University of the Second Red Front, and the cadet of the Yan'an Anti-Japanese Military and Political University; Participated in the Long March of the Red 2nd and 6th Armies.

During the National War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, he successively served as a teacher of the "Kang Da" General School, the captain of the 1st Brigade of the 1st Branch (Political Commissar Liao Haiguang), the vice president of the "Kang Da" Jiaodong Branch School (President Liu Han, Political Commissar Liao Haiguang), the president, the chief of staff of the 5th Brigade of the Shandong Column of the Eighth Route Army (Brigade Commander Wu Kehua, Political Commissar Gao Jinchun), the Chief of Staff of the Jiaodong Military Region under the Shandong Military Region of the Eighth Route Army (Commander Xu Shiyou, Political Commissar Lin Hao), the Commander of the South Naval Sub-district (Political Commissar Liu Zhonghua and Liao Haiguang), and the commander of the 5th Garrison Brigade of the Shandong Military Region (Political Commissar Liu Haotian and Liao Haiguang).

After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, he successively served as commander of the Southern Naval Subdistrict of the Jiaodong Military Region (political commissar Liao Haiguang), commander and political commissar, chief of staff of the Jiaodong Military Region (commanders Lin Hao and Tan Xilin, political commissars Lin Hao and Xiang Ming), and commander of the military region (political commissar Lai Keke).

After the founding of New China, he successively served as chief of staff of the headquarters of the Shandong Military Region, director of the Operational Education Department of the General Staff Department of the Central Military Commission, chief of staff of the 23rd Army of the Chinese People's Volunteers (1953), cadet of the Campaign Department of the Nanjing Military Academy of the People's Liberation Army, deputy director of the War History Department of the PLA Academy of Military Sciences, first director of the Military Museum of the Chinese People's Revolution (1960-1973), deputy secretary-general of the General Political Department of the Central Military Commission (1962) and acting secretary-general (1965-1967), director of the Military Department of the PLA Military and Political University (1975), Deputy Chief of Education, Director of Education and Deputy Director of the PLA Military Academy (1979-1983).

In 1955, he was awarded the rank of major general of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, and was successively awarded the Order of Bayi of the Third Degree, the Order of Independent Freedom of the Second Degree, the Liberation Medal of the First Class, and the Medal of Merit of the Red Star of the First Degree.

He has edited and published "Teaching Methods for Military Lessons", "A Preliminary Study of Military Thought in the Spring and Autumn Period", "Sun Tzu Exploring the Source", "Guerrilla Warfare", "Mao Zedong's Military Thought", "Dictionary of the Campaigns of the Chinese People's Liberation Army", "General History of China's Military Education", etc.
