Saving children in distress is the origin of Children's Day

The history of Children's Day can be traced back nearly 100 years.

The concept of "International Children's Day" was first introduced at the International Conference on Child Welfare, held in Geneva, Switzerland, in August 1925. The conference, which brought together child-friendly representatives from 54 countries, gathered in Geneva, Switzerland, for the "International Conference on Children's Well-being" and adopted the Geneva Declaration on the Protection of Children. In the declaration, the participating countries reached consensus on issues such as protecting children's rights and interests, providing relief for poor children, and avoiding child labor.

The first Children's Day in China was on April 4, 1932. In 1931, the "Shanghai Chinese Salesian Association" initiated a proposal that the government should designate April 4 as Children's Day. Subsequently, the Ministry of Education of the National Government formulated a method for commemorating Children's Day, which was implemented on April 4 of the following year.

In November 1949, the International Women's Democratic Federation held an executive committee meeting in Moscow, Soviet Union. Helen Gabrozo, a member of the Executive Committee of the Italian Women's Union, proposed on behalf of the IWF Secretariat that June 1 be designated as International Children's Day to commemorate the 88 children in the Czech village of Lidice, who were massacred by Nazi Germany on June 10, 1942, and all the children around the world who died in the fascist war of aggression. Gaporozo pointed out that the festival was established to protect children's rights to survival, health care and education around the world, thereby improving their lives. In 1954, June 1 was designated as the "International Day for the Protection of Children" to protect children's rights and children's right to learning, and to end child labor, which increased the international recognition of the day as Children's Day.

In December 1949, after the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Administrative Council of the Central People's Government designated "June 1st International Children's Day" as a Chinese children's holiday, and announced the abolition of the provisions on April 4 as Children's Day implemented by the National Government since 1931.

Countries that have designated June 1 as Children's Day include China, Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Myanmar, Poland, Portugal, Viet Nam, Mongolia, etc.
