Xiong Xianghui, formerly known as Xiong Yanquan, was born in 1919 in Fengyang, Anhui. In December 1936, Xiong Xianghui, a student at Tsinghua University, joined the organization. After the "July 7 Incident", in accordance with the organization's arrangement, he went to Hu Zongnan's First Army as a member of the Hunan Youth Field Service Regiment.
According to the prior arrangement of The Duke of Zhou, Xiong Xianghui showed his determination to resolutely demand the war of resistance to the end and his position of not being left or right during his stay in southern Hu Zong, and at the same time he also had profound knowledge, especially familiar with Mr. Zhongshan's teachings, which were exactly the "appetite" of Hu Zongnan, so he was quickly valued by Hu Zongnan.
Hu Zongnan said in a solo conversation with Xiong Xianghui: "You are a young pine, I want to cultivate you into a material, first of all, I want you to become a revolutionary soldier and become a member of the Huangpu family." Soon, Hu Zongnan sent Xiong Xianghui to the seventh branch of the Army Officer School to study.

The predecessor of the Army Officer School was the famous Whampoa Military Academy. After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, the school moved from Nanjing to Chengdu, and branch schools were established in some places. The seventh branch is located in Xi'an, and its head is Hu Zongnan. The students of the branch also belong to the "Huangpu Department", Xiong Xianghui is the first batch of students recruited by the seventh branch, if according to the sequence of the Whampoa Military Academy, it should be the fifteenth phase of Whampoa.
In March 1939, after Xiong Xianghui graduated, he became Hu Zongnan's highly trusted and valued assistant, aide-de-camp and confidential staff officer.
In June 1943, Hu Zongnan mobilized heavy troops in accordance with the battle plan personally approved by Chiang Kai-shek and prepared to blitz Yan'an. Xiong Xianghui promptly passed the relevant information to his liaison in Xi'an, Wang Shijian, who in turn passed the information to Yan'an through the secret radio station of the Eighth Route Army's office in Xi'an.

The Yan'an side exposed Chiang's conspiracy through various channels, making Chiang extremely passive and had to cancel the military plan to blitz Yan'an. Our side smashed the conspiracy of Jiang Jun in the form of "Wen Dou", and Xiong Xianghui made great contributions. The accurate information he provided defended Yan'an, but Hu Zongnan was unaware of this and still had great trust in Xiong Xianghui.
After the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Hu Zongnan planned to send Xiong Xianghui to the United States for further study. Hu once said: "We should consider selecting a few more people to study in the United States, and a few more doctorates and masters in the United States will be helpful to my future career." In the end, Hu Zongnan selected 17 young talents to study abroad, nearly half of whom were shaanxi family children, and the rest were subordinates who had worked around him for many years and were deeply trusted by him.
In January 1947, Xiong Xianghui married the like-minded Chen Xiaohua in Nanjing. The wedding ceremony was held in the Auditorium of the Inspirational Society, and the witness was Xiao Jiang.

At this time, Xiong Xianghui did not want to study abroad, because he knew that Hu Zongnan wanted to attack northern Shaanxi, and he believed that at this moment, he should stay with Hu Zongnan and continue to provide intelligence for Yan'an. However, Zhou Gong instructed, "To study in the United States, many people can't ask for it, you don't want it, you give it up voluntarily, it is not normal, it will only make others feel strange, and it may also arouse Hu Zongnan's suspicions." If Hu Zongnan takes the initiative to keep you, you will continue to do your current work, but you yourself must never propose not to go to the United States."
In this way, Xiong Xianghui completed all the procedures for studying in the United States. He believes that the undercover work around Hu Zongnan should come to an end.
According to the semester schedule of American universities, Xiong Xianghui was supposed to leave for the United States by liner at the end of January 1947, but due to the tight demand for ferry tickets, he had to wait until early March to embark on a study abroad trip. Unexpectedly, it was because of this seemingly ordinary "delay" that Xiong Xianghui dramatically returned to Hu Zongnan's side to work for a period of time, and Yan'an also accurately obtained military intelligence on Hu Zongnan's attack on the liberated areas of northern Shaanxi, and Xiong Xianghui also ushered in the highlight moment of his intelligence work career.
Before going to the United States, Xiong Xianghui took his new wife Chen Xiaohua to Hangzhou for a tour. On March 1, 1947, the couple had just returned to the hotel after visiting the Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou, but they did not expect that the agents of the Secret Service Bureau would take the initiative to come to the door and let Xiong Xianghui "go to Nanjing before 6 p.m. on March 2 to see Hu Zongnan." Since there was no direct train from Hangzhou to Nanjing at that time, the agent said that he could arrange a car to send the two to Nanjing.

Xiong Xianghui did not know whether he had been exposed, but he knew that since he had been "targeted" by the Secrecy Bureau, he could not run if he wanted to, and could only adapt to changes.
Xiong Xianghui refused the "kindness" of the secret service agents, took Chen Xiaohua to Shanghai by train on the same day, let his wife live in a relative's house in Shanghai, and then took the train to Nanjing by himself.
In Nanjing, hu Zongnan laughed as soon as he saw Xiong Xianghui and said, "It's coming so fast." It turned out that Hu Zongnan had gone to Nanjing to receive the task of attacking Yan'an, and he thought of his most trusted assistant Xiong Xianghui. Hu Zongnan knew that Xiong Xianghui had not yet gone to the United States and was taking his newlywed wife on a tour in Hangzhou, but he was unable to contact him immediately, so he found Mao Renfeng of the Secret Service and asked him to help find someone in Hangzhou. The eyes and ears of the Secret Bureau were everywhere, and Xiong Xianghui was quickly found, but this did make Xiong Xianghui a false alarm.

In this way, Xiong Xianghui returned to Hu Zongnan's side in a dignified manner. If Hu Zongnan knew that he had invited back a red undercover agent, it was estimated that it would not be too much to describe it as "repenting of the intestines".
Due to Xiong Xianghui's outstanding performance, Hu Zongnan's military deployment to attack Yan'an was sent to Yan'an in a timely and accurate manner. Yan'an organized the transfer in advance, and Hu Zongnan nominally achieved a "great victory", but his troops suffered successive defeats at Qinghua, Yangmahe, and Panlong towns, and suffered losses. At this time, Hu Zongnan's mood also changed from ecstasy when he first occupied Yan'an to sullenness.
On May 20, Hu Zongnan said to Xiong Xianghui: "There is nothing to do here, you still have to go to the United States, and leave early tomorrow morning." The next day, Xiong Xianghui left Yan'an and returned to Xi'an. He has never met Hu Zongnan again.
In July 1947, Xiong Xianghui took a boat from Shanghai to study in the United States. After two years, he returned to his homeland after receiving a master's degree, when Peiping had been peacefully liberated.

Back to the scene at the beginning of this article. Why did Premier Zhou disclose Xiong Xianghui's undercover identity in front of Zhang Zhizhong, a former former high-ranking official of Chiang Kai-shek's army? The reason is unknown, but there is a reason for this.
At that time, Hu Zongnan was leading the remnants of the army to resist in the southwest, and although Zhang Zhizhong had already left Chiang's camp, he could still maintain contact through some channel. When Xiong Xianghui's true identity is known to Jiang, Jiang will inevitably be angry with Hu Zongnan, precisely because Hu Zongnan used the wrong people, resulting in the failure of Jiang's two attacks on Yan'an, otherwise history may be rewritten. As a result, Hu Zongnan lost Jiang's trust and became an "outcast." Most importantly, Hu Zongnan's troops would also be abandoned by Chiang Kai-shek and thrown on the mainland, either becoming cannon fodder or fending for themselves. If these troops are transported to Taiwan Island, this will enhance the strength of the island army and will be detrimental to our attack on Taiwan.
On December 28, 1949, Chiang ordered Hu Zongnan, who had fled to Hainan, to return to Xichang and order him to hold on for three months, which was Chiang's last stronghold on the mainland. When the People's Liberation Army was about to liberate Xichang with the momentum of destruction and decay, Jiang abandoned Hu Zongnan to the Jedi and resolutely forbade Hu Zongnan to go to Taiwan Island. It can be seen that he has a great hatred for Hu Zongnan, a former "disciple of Tianzi" and a military general whom he trusts the most and is regarded as his right hand. Under the persuasion of Guo Jiyao, then deputy chief of staff, Chiang Acquiesced to Hu Zongnan's departure from Xichang, and Hu Zongnan was able to flee by plane at the last moment before the liberation of Xichang.
After Hu Zongnan arrived on Taiwan Island, he did not hold an important military post, which is enough to show that he has completely lost Chiang's trust, which is obviously related to Xiong Xianghui.
In addition, at the same time as Xiong Xianghui, he was selected by Hu Zongnan to send him abroad for further study, as well as Chen Zhongjing and Shen Jian, in fact, these two people also lurked around Hu Zongnan according to our arrangement. After the founding of New China, Zhou Gong referred to Li Kenong, Qian Zhuangfei, and Hu Di as the "first three masters" of the "Three Masters of Longtan," and Xiong Xianghui, Chen Zhongjing, and Shen Jian as the "last three masters" of the "Three Masters of Longtan." From this point of view, Hu Zongnan's vision of selecting talents does have "unique features".
