April 2021 to present Chaohu Lake District "no obvious bloom"

Xin'an Evening News Anhui Network Dawan News On July 29, the Department of Ecology and Environment of Anhui Province released the quality status of the province's water environment in the first half of 2021 and the main work measures. It is reported that in the first half of the year, the proportion of excellent water quality in the national assessment section of surface water in Anhui was 79.8%, an increase of 6.6 percentage points year-on-year; since April this year, the number of blooms in Chaohu Lake area has decreased by 14 times year-on-year, and the total area has decreased by 4/5.

The proportion of excellent water quality in the Xin'an River Basin remains 100%

Sun Yanhui, chief engineer of the Department of Ecology and Environment of Anhui Province, said that in the first half of 2021, the proportion of excellent water quality in the national assessment section of surface water in the province was 79.8%, an increase of 6.6 percentage points year-on-year; the proportion of inferior V. sections was 0.5%, down 1 percentage point year-on-year. Among them, the proportion of excellent water quality in the Yangtze River Basin was 87.4%, an increase of 0.9 percentage points year-on-year, and there was no inferior V. section; the proportion of excellent water quality in the HuaiHe River Basin was 70%, an increase of 13.3 percentage points year-on-year, and the proportion of inferior V. sections was 1.1%, down 2.2 percentage points year-on-year; the proportion of excellent water quality in the Xin'an River Basin remained at 100%.

During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, the number of state-controlled sections in Anhui increased from 106 to 195, covering 108 rivers and 27 lakes and reservoirs in the province. In order to scientifically and comprehensively reflect the environmental quality of surface water in the province, our province is optimizing and adjusting the "14th Five-Year Plan" provincial surface water monitoring network, planning to set up more than 200 provincial control sections, and establishing a surface water environmental quality monitoring network that unifies evaluation, assessment, ranking and ecological compensation, effectively supporting accurate pollution control, scientific pollution control, pollution management according to law and in-depth fighting the battle for the defense of clear water.

Since April 2021, the total area of Chao Lake's blooms has decreased by 4/5

In terms of ecological environmental protection of Chao Lake, 9 new sewage treatment plants and 1 sludge drying collaborative incineration project were built in our province, and 14 primary rainwater storage treatment projects were promoted. Implement chemical fertilizer and pesticide reduction and substitution measures, implement green manure planting of 450,000 mu, and close or relocate 927 farms in forbidden areas.

After years of efforts, the average water quality of Chaohu Lake has improved from Class V in 2018 to Class IV, especially from January to August 2020, the average water quality of the whole lake is Class III., creating the best level. The water quality of the main rivers entering the lake has fully reached the standard, and the water quality of the rivers entering the lake such as the Nanmihe River, the Fifteen Mile River, the Pai River, and the Shuangqiao River has been significantly improved, and the inferior Class V has been eliminated, and the water quality of the Fifteen Mile River and the Shuangqiao River has been improved to Class III.

At the same time, the cyanobacterial blooms in Chaohu Lake have eased, and from April to October 2020, a total of 50 cyanobacterial blooms occurred in the Chaohu Lake area, a decrease of 27 times compared with the same period in 2019, a total area of 18% year-on-year, and a 16% decrease in the density of algae in the whole lake. Since April 2021, the number of blooms has decreased by 14 times year-on-year, the total area has decreased by 4/5, and the degree of blooms monitored by satellite remote sensing has been "no obvious blooms".

In the next step, our province will accelerate the rectification of outstanding environmental problems, scientifically formulate rectification plans for the 17 problems pointed out at the central level involving the comprehensive treatment of Chao Lake, and fully promote the implementation of rectification and reform. At the same time, we will adhere to the overall planning of water and land, comprehensively strengthen the management of sewage discharges into the river, guide the investigation and traceability of the discharges into the river in the Chaohu Lake Basin, formulate a "one mouth, one policy" plan, and promote rectification.
