Xianbaoshan, a native of Anyang, Henan Province, born in 1930, joined the People's Liberation Army in May 1949 and served as a hygienist in the 9th Company of the 375th Regiment of the 125th Division of the 42nd Army. In October 1950, he entered the DPRK as the first troops, and after entering the DPRK, he participated in the first, second, third, and fourth battles, and in the summer and autumn of 1951 positional defense operations.
Although he is only a hygienist, the hygienist on the battlefield is no easier than the soldiers, they have to brave bullets and bullets to save lives and help the wounded on the battlefield, there are no weapons, only medical kits in their hands. For others, perhaps their work is more difficult to do, but Xianbaoshan has never complained from beginning to end!
On the battlefield, the wounded he treated were not thousands but hundreds, and he participated in countless battles, large and small, and the most impressive of these battles should be the one that attacked Zhongma Mountain. This battle was extremely fierce, and it was also the last battle of Hyun Bo Shan on the Korean battlefield! On September 5, 1951, at the strong request of Xianbaoshan, the company commander reluctantly let him join the first commando and followed other fighters to the front line to treat the wounded. At that time, the enemy army held absolute air supremacy, and their weapons and equipment were much more advanced than ours, so in the sound of explosions, our soldiers also suffered countless casualties, and the number of hygienists was relatively small, so the rescue work in Xianbao Mountain was quite difficult. He not only had to keep an eye out for enemy fire, but also bandaged wounds on the wounded and finally covered the evacuation of the wounded to the rear, while he continued to search for and treat other wounded on the battlefield. In this process, in order to protect the wounded, Xianbaoshan was willing to block bullets for the wounded, but his feet and shoulders were all hit by enemy bullets, but he did not leave the wounded and endured the pain to save the wounded. After saving one by one, Xianbaoshan limped and rushed to the front line to continue saving the next one, but the shell exploded around him again. This time his injuries were even more serious, and his intestines were directly blown out, but Xianbaoshan still did not give up, and once again endured severe pain and crawled to the wounded for treatment, just like that, Xianbaoshan saved another fighter.
But when he wanted to continue to treat the next one, the severe pain in his body could no longer support him to bandage the wounds of the wounded again, but at the last moment, Xianbaoshan still did not give up. He insisted until the squad leader rushed to his side, he endured severe pain and removed the military kettle from his neck, only to find that the kettle had been pierced through several holes at some point, and the emergency water for pain relief was almost leaked. With trembling hands, he handed over the pain-relieving emergency water with difficulty, and said to the second shift leader: "Drink it quickly!" When the second squad leader saw the blood-stained emergency kettle in Xianbaoshan's hand and his intestines stained with dirt outside, the second squad leader could no longer hold back his tears and said in a trembling voice: "Baoshan, I'm fine, you need it more than I do, drink it quickly!" Xianbaoshan shook his head vigorously, pushed the kettle to the second squad leader again, and then he said intermittently: "Second squad leader, I'm fine!" Let me dress your wounds!" I saw the 21-year-old hygienist put the bandage in his hand trembling on the wound of the second shift leader, and then frowned tightly, and slowly closed his eyes...
After his death, according to his previous wishes, the party committee of his unit posthumously recognized him as a member of the Communist Party of China on December 2, 1951. On June 25, 1952, the leading organ of the Chinese People's Volunteers decided to posthumously honor Xianbaoshan with special merit and posthumously award him the honorary title of "first-class combat hero". The Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea posthumously awarded him the Medal of Honor for Soldier of the First Class.
Today, the kettles used by Hyun Baoshan are displayed in the Anti-US Aid Korea Hall of the Military Museum of the Chinese People's Revolution, silently telling the noble character and an extraordinary comradeship on the Korean battlefield who sacrificed his life to save people.
