"Jin Wankun, as the director of Tianjin Changxin Aquatic Products Breeding Farm, the director of the Tianjin Carp And Breeding Center of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and the director of the Tianjin Key Laboratory of Freshwater Fish Genetics and Breeding Enterprises, has been dealing with fish breeding for a lifetime, and now at the age of 87, he still likes to stay by the fish pond and ponder fish.

In fact, Jin Wankun's education level was not high when he was young, and he only attended primary school for 18 days. He was able to become an expert in fish farming and breeding, all by hard work and self-taught. Initially only to earn a living and raise a family, he later became interested in the study of breeding fish. He relied on "flipping" dictionaries, "nibbling" books, and "worshiping" teachers, studying hard and striving for excellence, and conquered the cultural and professional barriers. Stacks of reading notes are still stored in the home, which record hundreds of thousands of experimental studies from fish characteristics, rearing to hatching. In the early 1960s, he broke the confinement and artificially bred the "four big fish" successfully, and was known as "the first person in the artificial breeding of fish in the north". Since the 1990s, he has introduced and collected 54 varieties of freshwater fish from all over the country, such as original fine species, wild species and indigenous species, built a live conservation bank of germplasm resources, and successively bred 10 new aquatic varieties approved by the state and promoted nationwide, such as red and white long-tailed crucian carp, blue-flowered long-tailed carp, ink dragon carp, Ukrainian scale carp, Jinxin carp, Jinxin carp No. 2, golden crucian carp, Jinjin carp and Lutai carp, and Jinxin squid, which have been approved by the state and promoted nationwide, so that many farmers have raised fish to become rich, and also enriched the public's table.

"Produce high-quality seeds and serve farmers across the country." This is the goal of Jinwankun fish breeding. In his opinion, breeding a high-quality breeding fish, fish farmers say it is good to raise, fish sellers say good to sell, and people who eat fish say it is delicious, which is a meaningful thing. Once, listening to fish farmers tell that near the town of Miaozhuang in Ninghe, there were several farmers with more than 300 acres of water surface, because they bought inferior fake seedlings, and all of them died after going down the pond. Jin Wankun immediately summoned a meeting of the cadres in the field and decided that in the case of the shortage of fish fry in this field, the production would be increased through scientific operation, and more than 4 million high-quality fish fry would be sent to the ponds of these fish farmers, which made the farmers moved. In the early spring of another year, when there was an epidemic in the south and there was a shortage of fish fry, the relevant state departments entrusted jin Wankun with the task of transferring seedlings from the north. In order to ensure that the task was completed in an incubation season, Jin Wankun, who was already in his 70s, could not eat and sleep, put on water pants, stood in the cold and bone-chilling induction pool, and injected oxytocin for broodstock, almost tired of the pool. This season, more than 1 billion robust fish fry were transported to the south, the first large-scale "north fish southward diversion" in history, alleviating the shortage of freshwater aquaculture in some provinces and regions.

Nowadays, Jin Wankun's new aquatic products breeding farm produces and promotes more than 15 new varieties every year, and the annual production and promotion of excellent seedlings reaches more than 3 billion, covering 30 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions across the country, with an annual promotion and breeding area of more than 1.6 million mu, and has been rated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs as the first national modern fishery seed industry demonstration field and the national aquatic healthy aquaculture demonstration farm. Over the years, he has published 58 papers in national aquatic journals and edited and published 5 monographs on freshwater fish breeding. He has been awarded the Tianjin Model Worker three times, the National Agricultural Science and Technology Expert twice, the National Advanced Worker of Science popularization twice, and the outstanding Communist Party Member of the city and district for many times.

Jin Wankun can be described as fruitful in fish breeding and breeding, and he has achieved fame. Someone advised him not to do it and to enjoy life. However, he is still struggling in the front line of fish breeding. In response to the rural revitalization strategy, Jin Wankun plans to complete the improvement of the germplasm quality of 16 main production varieties of parent species fish in three years, and by the end of the "13th Five-Year Plan", 3 new varieties of high nutrition, strong stress and disease resistance, and green original ecology will be bred; 1 special variety of rice and fishery comprehensive breeding will be developed; and 1 local indigenous crucian carp variety will be selected and developed, so that more farmers can embark on the road of fish farming.
