Morphological characteristics Larger buntings, with a body length of 15 to 18 cm. The mouth is thick and short, the overall round is blunt, and the tail is long and slightly forked. The male has a chestnut head to the back of the neck, the eyes are black first, the white eyebrow lines are prominent, the ear feathers are chestnut, the lower part has a white stripe, the white stripes are adjacent to the black hair stripes, and the overall head side of the head forms three dark stripes, hence its name; the throat is white, the neck side is gray, the chest is chestnut, the color to the abdomen is fading, and the undertail cover feathers are pale yellow; the upper body is chestnut, the back and shoulders have significant black longitudinal stripes; the wings are black and brown with light feathers; the tail is mainly black, the central tail feathers are brown, and the outermost tail feathers have significant white spots. The female is paler in color, with yellow skin on the eyebrows and lower cheeks, brown instead of chestnut on the upper body, and a gradually fading yellow skin on the chest and abdomen. The young are pale in color and have many fine longitudinal stripes.

Life habits mainly inhabit thin forests, forest edges, shrublands, and juvenile forests in mountainous areas and plains. The breeding period mainly feeds on insects, and the non-breeding period mainly feeds on grass seeds. It often inhabits trees or power lines, and is active in shrubs, low trees, and forages on the ground. The call is a monosyllabic "nourishing, nourishing" sound, and in spring and summer, it is often sung from a high place, and the sound is pleasant. The breeding period is from May to July, the main nest is in the bush or small trees, the nest is bowl-shaped, woven from grass blades, etc., lined with fibers. More common resident birds. It is widely distributed from the Taishan Mountains to the Wen River Basin.
