Photography Annual Competition
The Annual Photography Competition is divided into four categories around bird ecological photography, namely: behavior, environment, close-up, and creativity. Every month, the organizing committee of the competition selects the outstanding works that are shortlisted every month according to the four categories and enters the year-end finals. In March, a total of 34 excellent works were shortlisted, let us enjoy them together:

▲Behavior "Homecoming"
Photography by: Commander
Species Name: Chinese Autumn Sand Duck
Filming location: Dazhangxi, Songkou Town, Yongtai County, Fuzhou
Shooting equipment: Canon 1DX 3 +EF400mm/f2.8+1.4X
The basis of eco-photography is first of all to understand the habits of the species photographed, I have been with this group of Chinese autumn sand ducks for about 100 days, and I know their habits almost completely. Every morning when they go out to forage, they will definitely come back here to rest and play. So I chose the position of the plane, predicted where they might land, and waited for them to arrive. After about an hour of waiting, sure enough, as I judged, seven Chinese autumn sand ducks flew back and floated down in my preset position. I use slowness to blur the environment, and at the same time, the reflection in the lake forms a symmetrical relationship with the subject, making the picture appear full and flexible. Judging from the frozen posture and expression, they look very stretched, comfortable and natural. I'm also satisfied to see them in the picture, which may be the joy of nature ecological photography.
▲Close-up "Sight"
Photography by Ding Ding
Species name: White Crane
Shooting location: Poyang Lake, Nanchang
Shooting equipment: Canon 7DII + Sigma 60-600mm
Picture description: The white crane migrates from Siberia to Poyang Lake in Jiangxi, China, from September to October every year. We arrived at Poyang Lake in mid-December 2020, and the lake is full of family-dominated white cranes and various birds, which is very spectacular. The white crane is arrogant and has a strong sense of territory. The white crane family I photographed is a warm scene of the female white crane resting with the little white crane and the male white crane taking a comfortable nap but opening his eyes to keep his vigilance from time to time. I caught the moment when the white crane opened his eyes and the moment we looked at each other.
▲Environmental "Double Fly"
Photography by: Old Wolf guanzhong
Species name: Crested ibis
Filming location: Yang County, Shaanxi
Shooting equipment: Nikon D5 + Nikon 180-400
Picture description: Shooting the crested ibis in the background of rape flowers is one of the favorites of birds, but the crested ibis has begun to enter the breeding period, it is rare to fly with wings, and many times of hard waiting may not be able to capture the camera of the crested ibis husband and wife in the same frame. The kung fu paid off, and at noon that day, it was another long waiting. Suddenly, a couple of crested ibises who had just finished "lunch" in the distance flew in, and I quickly set up a camera to record this rare scene.
▲Environmental "Morning Light"
Photography by Ge Zhen
Species name: Bald Eagle
Filming location: Suining County, Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province
Shooting equipment: Canon 5D 3+EF70-200mm/f2.8
▲Close-up category "Watch Food"
Photography author: Shoot beautiful birds all over the world
Species name: Brown-crowned hummingbird
Filming location: Panama
Shooting equipment: Canon 1DX2+EF 600mm/f4
Image description: In March 2017, the second month of just starting to shoot birds, I went to Panama alone to shoot birds, stayed in Panama's famous bird-shooting chain hotel canopy lodge, and saw the crown hummingbird for the first time, the size is very small, about 6-7 cm, I can't believe there are such small birds. In order to shoot it well, I carried the camera cannon and the heavy sand sparrow cloud platform used at that time, and walked back and forth for five kilometers alone, and finally photographed this beautiful brown-crowned hummingbird.
▲Environmental "Habitat"
Photography by: I'm a wrench
Species Name: Common Cormorant
Filming location: Yugan, Jiangxi
Shooting equipment: Nikon D5+AF-s500mm/f5.6
Photo description: Poyang Lake Wetland is one of the important wintering grounds for migratory birds around the world. A large number of grass islands exposed during the dry period in winter provide a large amount of food for plant-eating birds such as various cranes, geese, swans, etc.; the shoals, small lakes and ditches formed by low water levels provide rich fish and shrimp resources for carnivorous birds such as oriental white storks, egrets, herons, cormorants, etc. The YuganQi base is right next to the lake outside Poyang Lake and its sub-lake Daming Lake, so the small forest crisscrossing the Base has become a resting place for ordinary cormorants. They fly back into the woods from their foraging ground to rest before sunset, and then go out to forage after sunrise the next day, and thousands of cormorants gather together to roost in the trees, and the scene is spectacular.
▲Environmental category "A song flying out of the waves"
Photography by: Confidant Ming
Species name: White Stork
Filming location: Shangshan Yang, Yong'an County, Fujian Province
Shooting equipment: intelligent photographer + Nikon D5+ 28-300mm
Picture description: There are three stacks of waterfalls in the upper mountain ocean, and the drop is more than 80 meters, which is very spectacular. What is particularly surprising is that there are often beautiful large birds and white birds here. If you use a wide-angle lens to write more waterfall scenes to the picture, it will have a good effect.
I used a remote control device Smart Photographer device. After the smart photography hand frames the camera, the device can be placed anywhere in any position, without being fixed in the studio. After choosing the scene I wanted to shoot, I sat in the distance with the handle and tablet, quietly waiting for the birds to appear. At this moment, a white bird flew down from the high cliff and flew over the waterfall, as if flying through the waterfall towards me.
▲Environment "Snow In Love"
Photography by Shiso
Filming location: Huayang Ancient Town, Yang County, Shaanxi Province
Shooting equipment: Canon 1DX+EF500mm/f4.0
Picture description: In 2020, Hanzhong began to usher in the second snow of winter, the snow version of the crested ibises have the confidence to take a good picture of the place is Huayang Ancient Town, the number of crested ibises around the ancient town is relatively large, more importantly, here is located in the hinterland of Qinling Mountains, each time the amount of snowfall is more than the surroundings, the snow melts slowly. In the early morning, the snow has stopped, strolling to the old street of the ancient town, only to see that there are already two crested ibises in the river along the old street foraging, after a bit of hard work, they are content to slowly approach, comb their feathers, and from time to time with their beaks to communicate, so that the air in the ice and snow is immediately filled with a warm and warm feeling, which is the romance of these two crested ibises.
▲Environment "Mountain Messenger"
Photography by Mai Kai-kamma
Species name: Alpine vulture
Filming location: Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province
Shooting equipment: Canon 1D x2+EF600mm/f4 lens
Photo description: This is the third time I went to Kawanishi to shoot birds. The target green-tailed pheasant suddenly appeared a few alpine vultures above the waiting process, so he quickly pressed the shutter and took dozens of photos, always feeling dissatisfied when playing back the film, because the background was basically the sky. At that time, there was a row of snow-capped mountains in front of me on my right, but unfortunately the alpine vultures had no intention of circling here, and thought that they could only wait. So I aimed the camera in the direction of the snowy mountains, adjusted the parameters and continued to wait. After about twenty minutes, a mountain vulture finally came into my sight. Using snow-capped mountains to express the arrogance and majesty of the alpine vultures is exactly what he wants to express.
▲Environment "Secret Place"
Species name: Warty-nosed swan
Filming location: Xinjiang Ili Swan Spring Wetland Park
Shooting equipment: Canon 760D+EF70-200mm
Photo description: Warty-nosed swans from the breeding grounds of Lake Balkhash in Kazakhstan chose the Ili Swan Spring Wetland Park for wintering. Since there are hot springs under the Swan Spring, it does not freeze throughout the winter, and the cold air also forms a beautiful tree hanging around it, and the white swans dot it like a beautiful fairy tale world.
▲Environmental "Machine"
Photography by Xinwei
Species name: White-tailed sea eagle
Filming location: Hokkaido
Shooting equipment: Canon 1DX+EF28-300mm
Picture description: Every time someone throws fish to feed, sea eagles, cranes, foxes will compete with each other, the group of cranes is relatively large, but also has certain advantages, foxes and sea eagles will use various means and methods to obtain food, lively and noisy at the same time and their own defenses, the scene at this time for photographers is also unattainable, the grasp of timing, the capture of the posture between animals is a test for everyone. The way I used it was to use snow to block part of the lens to create a foggy fantasy atmosphere, focusing a little harder but seizing the opportunity to produce a good photo, constantly waiting, repeated adjustments, and finally took this photo.
▲Environment "Fairy Tale World"
Photography by Yujia _wh Swallow
Species name: Giant Swan
Filming location: Rongcheng, Shandong
Shooting equipment: Canon 1DX2+ EF600mm/f4.0
Picture description: After a night of snow, the coastline has been frozen ice, and the giant swans that inhabit the shore cannot eat the algae in the sea, and have flocked to the wheat field at the head of the village on the shore, while resisting the wind and snow, while eating wheat seedlings to replenish energy. A fierce wind rolled up thick white snow, rolling and flying in the field air, from a distance, it seemed like a fog wrapped between the reeds and fig branches, with the strength of the wind, thick and light, like a fairy tale world in a fairyland.
▲Close-up category "Overlook"
Photography by Tony Lee
Species name: White Horse Chicken
Filming location: Kashinigami Kawanishi
Shooting equipment: Canon 1DX2+EF600mm/f4
Photo description: On the day of the shooting, a pair of white horse chickens had split into groups and were ready to enter the breeding stage. Through the bushes, the "couple" caught my attention, the male was observing the surrounding situation, the hen looked down to feed, after a while, the hen looked up, and looked into the distance in unison with the male's gaze, as if expecting the results of love development, greeting the birth of a new life, and endlessly.
▲Close-up "Siberian Silver Gull"
Photography by Jing Lin
Species name: Siberian silver gull
Shooting location: Longshan Lake, Hunchun City, Jilin City
Shooting equipment: Sony a7m3 + FE200-600 + 1.4X
Picture description: In mid-March 2021, I came to Hunchun Longshan Lake to shoot white-tailed sea eagles and seagulls, and saw a group of seagulls hovering above Longshan Lake, which was very spectacular, when the white seagulls saw the food and swooped down fiercely, I quickly locked the focus on a white seagull, took a replay, and presented a very fierce picture of the seagull in my mind, as if it gave people the feeling that it was also a bird of prey.
▲Close-up "Grooming"
Photography by Akiyama Yuki
Species name: Corolla crease helmet hornbills
Filming location: Yingjiang, Yunnan
Shooting equipment: Canon EOS 1DX 3+EF600mm f/4
Picture description: Although in my understanding, birds have the most diverse morphological colors among all species. But when I saw the creased hornbill with a flower crown, I was still amazed by it. The huge helmet beak with a red crown hair orange-yellow throat sac, the whole head is like a work of art, amazing. When this photo was taken, there was some side backlight, and when the bird was sorting out its feathers, the open crown hairs were illuminated by the sun, highlighting the characteristics of the corolla and separating the scene very well, leaving me with this rare moment.
▲Close-up category "Two-horned Hornbill"
Photography by Chun Xiao
Species name: Double-horned hornbills
Filming location: Hornbill Valley, Yingjiang Shiti, Yunnan
Shooting equipment: Canon R5+EF800/f5.6
Picture description: This is a male two-horned hornbill, with a large beak of 30 centimeters and a large and wide helmet protrusion, the upper part of the helmet is slightly concave, and the leading edge forms two horn-like protrusions, like the big horns on the nose of the rhinoceros, and like the helmet of the ancient samurai, very powerful. I took a portrait of its frontal head with an R5 telephoto lens, and the large, watery eyes under the long eyelashes were clearly visible.
▲Behavioral "Romantic Delivery Room"
Photography by Qin Ying
Shooting equipment: Canon R5+RF100-500mm
In the spring, a two-horned hornbilly flew from the valley carrying a full belly of fruit and fed his wife in the "delivery room" a full 40 delicious fruits. The foreground is made of leaves, which sets off a romantic atmosphere for the "delivery room".
▲Behavioral "The Road Back Home"
Photography by Tianzhu
Filming location: Rongcheng Swan Lake
Shooting equipment: Sony A9+FE200-600
Picture description: Every year at the end of February and the beginning of March, when the giant swan returns to their siberian homeland, and this round-trip migration road is full of hardships and risks, but in order to survive and reproduce, the road of thousands of miles is their fate. This photo was taken on the way home of the giant swan, and the foreground of the branches is like a net, implying that the giant swan is not afraid of difficulties and strives for survival.
▲Close-up "To the Far Side"
Photography by: Ban'er Brick
Species name: Vulture
Filming location: Yantai Long Island, Shandong
Shooting equipment: Nikon D850 + Nikon 80-400mm
Image description: I named this picture "Toward the Distance" because there is a mixed story about this vulture. A few months ago, for some reason, this vulture landed on the shores of Long Island and was rescued by local fishermen. Over the past few months, I have formed a friendship with local fishermen, often wandering near the scenic spot, getting close to people, and enjoying myself. The joy is that the vulture has been rescued and restored to health and happiness, but the sad thing is that it likes humans, but its "mouth" is merciless, and it is most worried about hurting pedestrians in the past. The reserve is looking for ways to get it back into its group, and I'm looking forward to the vulture going "Far Away."
▲Behavior category "Sunset"
Photography by: West Sea Love Song

Shooting equipment: Nikon D6+500MMF5.6
Picture description: On January 14, 2021, Xuzhou has never had a cold winter, and the frozen lake surface of Yunlong Lake is like a huge mirror. A heron staggered to find a loach on the glacial lake, and was holding it in its mouth, when a hungry silver gull quietly swooped down from behind the heron, and the scene was thrilling, and a scramble for food began.
▲Behavioral "Hunting"
Photography by: Sunshine Ocean
Species name: Spotted Grebe
Filming location: Guangshui City, Suizhou City, Hubei Province
Picture description: Spotted grebes are very diligent in hunting for their cubs during brooding, showing maternal warmth. At the beginning of May 2019, the collared partridge was not afraid to shoot in Guangheng Jingguan, not only dared to hunt the larger ring-necked crows, fierce wolves and even long snakes, catching frequently, flying like a sword out of its sheath, very fast, sometimes horizontally, sometimes vertically flying under the tree into the tree cave... Flying clean and sharp, industrious little birds of prey show the "loving heart" of humans.

▲Behavioral "Moments of Life and Death"
Species Name: Yellow-billed River Tern
Shooting equipment: Jia EOS R5+RF600mm/f11
Image description: For photographing Yellow-billed River Terns, (Oh!) Now renamed River Tern and promoted to the national level) I have been "loved" for many years Why? One is because China can only witness its beautiful posture in Yingjiang County, Yunnan, which is its only breeding ground; second, they have a lot of rapid aerial movements in flight and are very flexible; third, they dare to compete with peregrine falcons "without fear of strong enemies"; and in 15 years, I won the special prize of the Organizing Committee of the Photography Contest for the group drawing of "Yingjiang Gull Song"!
In January this year, when the river terns returned to Yingjiang, they were able to meet them on the banks of the Daying River, and they used their cameras to record the picture of the river terns catching "tiger fish" (known locally as this fish) in the air ... (Shutter speed: 1/2000s)
▲Environmental category "Golden Shining Black-faced Spoonbill"
Species Name: Black-faced Spoonbill
Filming location: Yancheng Strip Mud Wetland
Shooting equipment: Canon 5D4+EF600mm/f4
Image description: One day in October 2018, bird friends and I went down into the water in the morning when it was dark. The sky is dark, the sun is slowly emerging, the water is shining, and nearly 200 black-faced spoonbills are resting quietly in the water. We took this picture and all the effort seemed insignificant!

When I arrived in Deqing County, I encountered rare good weather, and various birds in the bird watching base were happily foraging and flying. In the afternoon side backlight environment, I had the privilege of photographing this light and shadow egret.
▲ Behavior class "A pair of meat palms are also very raw"
Photography by: Yunying Harukawa
Species name: Spot-billed duck
Filming location: Daijia Lake, Wuhan
Shooting equipment: Nikon D6+AF-s800mm/f5.6
Picture description: Duck waterfowl is very refined, the old duck told the duckling: two-legged people are natural enemies, must be the enemy in front of me, always keep a distance. Therefore, it is not easy to shoot ducks up close and front, even if there is a tent camouflage, it does not work, because the ducks are very sensitive to hearing and body feeling. In addition to the camouflage elements, there are several basic conditions for shooting waterfowl films: one is low camera position, shooting close to the water surface, and the duck has a sense of perspective face to face; the second is that the water surface reflects the dark background, the best wind and waves are calm, and the pursuit of a clean ecological background is excluded; the third is that the lens focal length is one inch long and one inch strong, of course, except for the mood film. I said that everyone knows that it is not easy to do in the wild environment, camouflage and shoot or heavy equipment into the water, we will get back pain at this age. Oh, this set of duck pieces I shot for a day, rest for three days.
▲Close-up "Regiment"
Photography by a.w.king_lr
Filming location: Wishing Star Lake at Shanghai Disneyland
Shooting equipment: Sony 7R4+FE200-600mm+2X range
Image description: Every year in early March is the time of bird migration, Shanghai's Pudong East Disney Park in front of the Star Wish Lake is the main road of migratory bird migration routes, every year there are millions of migratory birds passing through Shanghai, it is said that there are nearly 100 species, so take the weekend free time to go to photograph birds. Helpless in Shanghai in early March, the winter rains are draining. There are few birds flying on the Lake of Wishing, only some herons, spot-billed ducks, bone-top chickens, black water chickens on the lake... Sometimes some white-headed men jump on the wet trees, and the grass is mostly black and black crows... After walking for more than two hours, the sky was still drizzling, so I was ready to finish work and go home. Passing through a mangrove forest by the lake, I saw a group of spot-billed ducks resting, one of them had his head completely buried in his wings, and the red leg supported the fat body, the composition was very special, so he pressed the shutter, which was also an unexpected gain.

At the end of February 2018, I also went there. Kung Fu paid off, and finally let me block its style. It's just too far away from us that I can only record a scene of it standing on a wire. A month later, an unfortunate news came. This only second-class protected animal in China that can be observed and photographed, the stork-billed emerald, unfortunately crashed into the glass curtain wall of the building and died, and this photo has become an eternal memory!
