After 27 years, the former British Prime Minister has gone to Taiwan again, why did Truss go to Taiwan?

author:Shi Shi Pie

According to Taiwan's foreign affairs department yesterday (9th), former British Prime Minister Truss will go to Taiwan from 16 to 20 July, and in addition to meeting with the high-level of the DPP authorities and communicating with people from political, business, academic and other circles on the island, he will also be invited to deliver a so-called "speech." Truss also issued a statement noting that China's words and actions are becoming increasingly aggressive, and she is very much looking forward to personally showing that she is with the people of Taiwan. So why does Truss insist on channeling?

After 27 years, the former British Prime Minister has gone to Taiwan again, why did Truss go to Taiwan?

First, Thatcher's fangirl?

This is 27 years after the departure of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in 1996. When Truss was running for the leader of the Conservative Party, he deliberately imitated Margaret Thatcher everywhere, intending to make himself the image of "the second Thatcher".

Born into a family that supported the left in politics, Truss studied philosophy, politics and economics at Oxford University. Truss entered the British Parliament in 2010, initially as a councillor in Southwest Norfolk, and has since held a number of positions in the government led by Cameron, Theresa May and Johnson. In the 2016 Brexit referendum, she was a supporter of "Remain", but in 2017 she switched to supporting "Brexit" and facilitated trade agreements between the UK and Japan, Australia and other countries, which won widespread praise within the Conservative Party.

Truss was the first female Lord Lord of Lords and Secretary of State for Justice in the United Kingdom. Following a cabinet reshuffle in September 2021, Johnson became the second female foreign secretary in British history. Many media reports have imitated Margaret Thatcher's dress.

Since becoming prime minister, Truss has successively introduced subsidies on energy bills and the most aggressive tax cuts in Britain in half a century. Obviously, the results are not very promising. The tax cut plan led to the sell-off of British gilts, which briefly put the UK bond market at risk of an avalanche. Medvedev commented that Truss's agitation of the British economy simply deserved a Nobel Prize. Because she destroyed the country's financial system as fast as she could.

The fiasco of the tax cut plan + energy subsidies made Truss prime minister of the United Kingdom only 45 days, the shortest prime minister in British history, and there is no one. Truss is bent on becoming a figure like Thatcher the Iron Lady, turning the tide and bringing recession, inflation and strikes back to the right path of Britain. It is a pity that Truss's heart is higher than the sky, and the eyes are high and the hands are low, and the result is a dream after all.

After failing to imitate Margaret Thatcher as prime minister, Truss began to imitate on another path: channeling. After Margaret Thatcher stepped down as British prime minister, she went to power twice in 1992 and 1996, and it seems that Truss is trying to lose her sister to the end.

Second, to earn a pension?

Taiwan's "Vision Foundation," which demanded Truss, is a "Taiwan independence" organization sanctioned by the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council; nominally a non-governmental academic institution, but in fact it is a "peripheral organization of intelligence agencies" of the Taiwan authorities, engaged in the ugly act of colluding with external anti-China forces and vigorously pursuing "Taiwan independence." Pompeo and Pelosi were both "invited" by the foundation.

The "Vision Foundation" is a "white glove" of the Taiwan authorities, inviting Western politicians to sneak into Taiwan, and the transportation fees paid to Western politicians to sneak into Taiwan are all handled by the organization.

Taiwan's "Vision Foundation" was established in 1997, before former US Secretary of State Pompeo went to Taiwan, it was at the invitation of the agency, former deputy secretary-general of the Kuomintang Tsai Zhengyuan disclosed that Pompeo was on stage, a speech cost $500,000, and other visiting activities may also have financial subsidies. It can be seen that the foundation's political donations to the Taiwan activists are very rich, and Truss's trip is not for money, but it will definitely make a lot of pensions.

The current chairman of the "Vision Foundation" is Chen Tangshan, a "legislator" of the Democratic Progressive Party, and its directors include Tsai Mingyan and Ke Chengheng, the number one and second figures in Taiwan's intelligence agency

Third, she has always been an anti-China vanguard

"Economic NATO" is Truss's idea when he was foreign minister from 2021 to September 2022, and the core connotation is to unite partners and countries with similar concepts to counter the economies of other countries, mainly to target China.

Truss first mentioned in his annual foreign policy speech last April that Britain and its NATO allies should work to ensure that Taiwan is self-defensive. Subsequently, she made several public calls for similar actions, and advocated that lessons should be learned from Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine and necessary support should be provided to Taiwan as soon as possible, including in the military field. As recently as February this year, she gave a speech in Japan, calling on all walks of life to face up to China's threat and strengthen support for Taiwan.

It again proposed to strengthen cooperation with allies in the Pacific region and create an "economic version of NATO" to curb China's influence in the region. In addition, she said, regional countries should actively enhance Taiwan's "international status", such as giving Taiwan defense support and providing more economic support measures.

Earlier, during his visit to China, French President Emmanuel Macron called on European countries to "reduce their dependence on the United States" and warned their European counterparts "not to be involved in the Sino-US struggle over the Taiwan Strait issue." Former British Prime Minister Truss also jumped out to brush his presence. According to the British "Guardian" report, Truss recently criticized Macron's visit to China at a public event in Washington as a "sign of weakness towards China."

Therefore, it is not surprising that Truss, as the vanguard of anti-China, has been doing so-called non-governmental diplomacy, parliamentary diplomacy, and think tank diplomacy by the Tsai Ing-wen administration in recent times. Tsai Ing-wen met with Speaker McCarthy of the US House of Representatives, and US and Western politicians rushed to power one after another, making Tsai Ing-wen, who will step down in another year, overjoyed. However, the Truss Scandal cannot change the historical fact that both sides of the strait belong to one China.

The current British Prime Minister Sunak has always hoped to ease tensions with China, and the British government has also adhered to a cautious strategy of developing relations with China. The British side said that it will continue to abide by the one-China principle, and is willing to maintain communication and exchanges with China, deepen cooperation, promote the construction of stable, healthy and mature bilateral relations, and jointly address global challenges.
