After the departure of former coach Van Bommel, Eindhoven's youth director Faber temporarily assumed the position of head coach of the team. Schmidt will officially take over the team after the start of next season, when Faber will also return to his position as youth director.

Schmidt, 52, has coached Paderborn, Red Bull Salzburg and Bayer Leverkusen.

Along with Schmidt, Jörn Wolf, the former guoan coaching coordinator (assistant coach), joined Schmidt, and he and Schmidt have a very good relationship.

Previously, Schmidt coached Beijing Guoan for two years, during which he led the team to participate in a total of 83 official matches, achieving 46 wins, 14 draws and 23 losses, and led the team to win the 2018 FA Cup. In July 2019, Beijing Guoan announced that Schmidt would no longer serve as the team's head coach.

Currently, Eindhoven is 4th in the Eredivisie with a record of 14 wins, 7 draws and 5 defeats.
