The golden butterfly is the largest and most beautiful butterfly in China. The golden butterfly has a graceful posture when flying, and the golden yellow and black markings of the hind wings are brilliant in the sunlight, looking luxurious and beautiful. According to monitoring data, in 2021, the population of golden butterflies in Ma'andi Township, Jinping County, Yunnan Province, increased sharply, which is also the largest number of this population since monitoring.

Ma'andi Township is located in the eastern part of Jinping County, located in a mountainous area, accounting for 99% of the mountainous area, with complex terrain, large difference in altitude and height, complex and diverse climate types, dry and wet, belonging to the South Asian tropical and tropical monsoon climate. The forest cover rate is 67.7 per cent. It also provides a unique natural environment for the survival and reproduction of golden butterflies.

"This year, the situation of the golden butterfly is still very good, and the population has increased by more than three times compared with previous years. It can be said that this year is also a big outbreak year for the golden phoenix butterfly, and it is also a big year for the golden phoenix butterfly population. After our monitoring, this year's golden butterfly has exceeded 200 per acre, which is already a very considerable number, because the golden butterfly is a butterfly that is cherished by our country, and it is now listed as a national second-level protected animal, and it is also very rare to see such a large population in the butterfly valley. Yang Zhenwen, director of the Butterfly Museum of China's Red River Butterfly Valley of the Jinping County Culture and Tourism Bureau, said.

The golden butterfly is a national second-level protected animal, mainly distributed in Indonesia, Myanmar, Thailand, India, Nepal and China. The golden butterfly is a large butterfly, the adult is commonly found in flat areas and hilly areas below 1200 meters above sea level, and likes to fly to wildflower bushes in the morning and dusk to suck nectar. Adults lay their eggs on new shoots of the host plant, on both sides of the leafy dorsal ventral side, or on petioles and young shoots. The golden butterfly goes through four stages of eggs, larvae, pupae and adult insects in its lifetime, and belongs to the completely metamorphosed insects. Adults lay about 5 to 20 eggs at a time, and can occur 4-5 generations per year in Saddle Butterfly Valley. The surface of the eggs of the golden butterfly is smooth and nearly spherical. The hatched larvae are mostly hosts on aristolochiae. Hatched larvae undergo five peeling cycles before they can become butterfly pupae. The larvae have fleshy spines on their backs, and their body color varies with age, and the larvae are often ochre-colored at the end of their instar years. In the wild, the natural enemies of the golden butterfly are mostly ants, grasshoppers and beetles. In the case of mulching, the older larvae usually spit silk on the head, fixing the body with two filaments to the host plant, and the color of the pupa changes due to environmental influences.

In 2002, the golden butterfly was first found in jinping saddle bottom in Yunnan. Over the years, the population of the golden butterfly has steadily increased under the efforts of many parties, and by 2021, the population will reach more than 5,000 at the bottom of the saddle, which is also the largest number of this population since monitoring.

"The county party committee and government attach great importance to the protection of butterfly resources in butterfly valley, especially the protection of rare butterflies, and after the introduction of the "Butterfly Valley Protection and Management Regulations", the relevant departments have increased law enforcement. The ecological and environmental protection of butterflies is also attached great importance to, and the measures are also very powerful, and good results have been achieved. For example, the people of the cooperative have planted a lot of hosts of golden phoenix butterflies in the more suitable places in our butterfly valley, so that the food of the golden phoenix butterfly has been guaranteed, so the population of the golden phoenix has also increased vigorously. It can be said that the problem of butterflies 'two worries' has been solved, especially the butterfly population of the golden phoenix butterfly is very large, the number is very considerable, and the effect of protection is also very obvious. Yang Zhenwen said.

In order to better protect the butterfly resources of the Butterfly Valley, the Jinping County Party Committee and the government have always adhered to the concept of ecological civilization that gives priority to ecology and protection, and in accordance with the work idea of "giving priority to resource protection, relying on scientific research, supporting project construction, and based on community education", the protection of forest ecological resources is put in the first place, and the conservation of biodiversity is increased to provide a good living environment for butterflies. Specially issued the "Butterfly Valley Protection and Management Regulations", prohibiting the occurrence of natural conditions of water resources and water environment in the protected area without authorization, spraying pesticides to cut down trees and deforestation, digging and trampling bamboo shoots, and other behaviors that threaten the survival of butterflies and honey source plants, but also increase the publicity for tourists and local people to protect butterflies, jointly guard the ecological home on which butterflies live, and form a good atmosphere in which everyone loves butterflies and protects butterflies.
