Bugs: Hemiptera insects, small to medium-sized, hard walls, slightly flattened body, sucking mouthparts on the front of the head, when not used to attach to the ventral surface of the head and thorax. Antennae are generally 4-5 segments.

The compound eye is prominent, with or without one eye. The dorsal plate of the anterior thorax is well developed, and the mid-chest has a well-developed small shield. The base half of the forewing is leathery, and the end half is membranous, called hemi-elytra, which is generally divided into three parts: leather area, claw area and abdominal area, and some species have wedge areas. Many species often have stink glands on the chest and ventral surface, which can emit a foul odor.
