A man who loves sushi in California, USA, eats salmon sashimi almost every day, and as a result, he is infected with tapeworms.

According to Apple Daily, Dr. Kenny Bahn revealed on the podcast show "This Won't Hurt A Bit" that the patient from the central California city of Fresno said that he had blood in his stool and went to the hospital's emergency room for treatment. He told the doctor that he was actually infected with tapeworm and sought treatment, and showed the doctor a tapeworm 1.7 meters (5 and a half feet) long.

The patient said that when he went to the toilet, he felt that something was "drilling out" and thought that "internal organs were coming out". He saw a tapeworm, wrapped it in a toilet paper tube, and took it to the hospital.

Barne asked the patient if he had gone abroad, and he said no, but admitted to eating salmon sashimi every day.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published a report last year that Japanese tapeworms were detected in wild salmon in Alaska, showing that not only Asian fish, but any salmon caught from the U.S. Pacific coast could be infected with Japanese tapeworms.
