01 Goshawk was injured and sent to the police station

"I picked up a flightless bird, as if it had a wound on its face, for fear that it would starve to death, and handed it over to you." At about 20:00 on November 17, a young man used a bird cage to carry a bird to the police on duty at the Wandong police station for help. He informed the police that he found this eagle-like bird on the side of the Yutianbao coal mine on the same day, saw that it could not fly, afraid of freezing to death, so he installed it in a cage and sent it to the police station.

It is reported that the goshawk is a small and medium-sized bird of prey, which belongs to the national key second-level protected wild animals. The body length can reach 60 cm and the wingspan is about 1.3 m. The top of the head, pillow and the side of the head are black-brown, with white feathers on the occipital area, white and black lines on the eyebrows, brownish black on the back, dense gray-brown and white stripes below the chest, and gray-brown tail with 4 broad black transverse spots and a square tail. It feeds mainly on forest rats, hares, pheasants, hazelnuts, doves and other small birds. It inhabits coniferous, mixed and broad-leaved forests at different altitudes, and is also found in sparse forests and small forests in the mountain plains and hilly areas.

04 The ministry of agriculture and forestry was released

At the same time as settling the bird, the police immediately asked the relevant staff of the Wansheng Agriculture and Forestry Department for help, and after the staff contacted the relevant experts of birds in Chongqing to identify and deduce that the bird should be a goshawk. According to the expert, goshawks are national second-level protected wild animals and are protected by relevant laws.

"We're going to let it go after further observation." On the morning of November 19, after the police of wandong police station handed over the goshawk to the staff of the agriculture and forestry department of Wansheng Economic Development Zone, they said they would release it after further observation.

Police remind: Wansheng ecological environment is good, the probability of wild animals under national key protection appearing in people's daily production and life is high, try to stay away from them when you meet them, and illegal hunting or killing is strictly prohibited. When encountering an injured wild animal or discovering illegal acts against wild animals, immediately report to the local agriculture and forestry department or public security organ.

According to relevant laws and regulations, those who illegally hunt or kill rare or endangered wild animals under national key protection, or illegally acquire, transport or sell rare and endangered wild animals under national key protection and their products, will be severely punished by law.
