Putuo Mountain has beautiful scenery, many monuments and monasteries, and is a good place for Buddhists to pilgrimage and tourists to sightsee. Guanyin Bodhisattva, formerly known as Guanyin, is a great bodhisattva in Buddhism who popularizes all sentient beings and rescues suffering and suffering. He had vowed that if he could not relieve all the suffering of the world, he would not become a Buddha. For this reason, he is known as the "Great Compassion and Pessimism of Avalokiteshvara".
The origin of refusing to go to Kannon-in
In 916 AD, a senior monk named Hui Wei came to China by boat to Mount Wutai to get a statue of Guanyin Bodhisattva, ready to take it back to Japan for worship. When the ship drove to the place of the lotus ocean, suddenly there was a violent storm, and hundreds of iron lotus flowers suddenly appeared on the sea to block the channel, and the ship could not move forward at all!
Gen-la prayed to Guanyin: "If the bodhisattva refuses to go to Japan, wherever the bodhisattva wants, my monk will follow him wherever he wants, and make offerings for life." That night, the monk dreamed that Guanyin Bodhisattva said to him, "If you stay here, I will send you in the wind in three days," and sure enough, on the third day, the weather cleared, and the sailboat set sail, drifting with the wind to the side of Chaoyin Cave on Putuo Island. Gen-la landed with a statue of a bodhisattva. At that time, Putuo Island had no monasteries at all, only residents. A resident surnamed Zhang knew that a Japanese monk had invited Guanyin from Mount Wutai to come here, so he donated several houses to him to worship the statue of Guanyin. He also gave the house a name called "Refusing to Go to Kannon-in". Gen-la later returned to Japan by boat!
Since then, Putuo Mountain has been regarded as the ashram where Guanyin Bodhisattva practiced!
The completion of the Guanyin statue in the South China Sea of Putuo
The Nanhai Guanyin statue in Putuo Mountain was completed in 1997, this Buddha statue has a total height of 33 meters, including 18 meters of Buddha statue, 2 meters of lotus platform, 13 meters of base, and the base area is 5,500 square meters. It is the only statue of Guanyin in Putuo Mountain that allows photography. The Buddha face has 13 pounds of gold, the left hand holds the Falun, the right hand casts the fearless seal, and the Buddha statue has a kind face! Bless the islanders who went out to fish to return safely, protect the peace of the country, and the wind and rain are smooth!
The opening time was scheduled for 8 a.m. on October 30, but the weather had been rainy for the previous week, and it did not clear until the evening of October 29. However, early on the morning of the 30th, the clouds began to cover again, and the opening time was originally scheduled for 8 o'clock in the morning, and the master of the enlightenment festival, fearing that it would rain at any time, had to postpone it for 15 minutes, and distributed rain gear to everyone, preparing to perform the opening ceremony in the rain. At 8:15, the festival officially began, and as soon as the announcement fell, a magical scene appeared, and I saw that the originally gloomy sky suddenly cracked a crack, and a ray of golden light fell from the gap, just hitting the statue of Guanyin.
Everyone was stunned by this magical scene in front of them, and they all looked up at the sky, only to see an auspicious cloud similar to the statue of Guanyin Bodhisattva appeared in the clouds, and the surrounding light was magnified, and the people present at the festival shouted loudly that this was the Bodhisattva apparition, and there was a camera recording the whole process of the festival, and this spectacle was recorded by the camera with professional equipment. Because of the many people who witnessed it with their own eyes, and the circulation of some photos, this Putuo Mountain Guanyin Bodhisattva manifestation incident became famous.
Later, some meteorological experts came out to explain that this was a climatic phenomenon, and the light transmission of clouds and the shape of the clouds were purely coincidental.
Guanyin Ancient Cave, Ergui Listening Stone, Pantuo Stone, Woniu Stone, Meifu Zen Monastery and Heart Character Stone. Every place has its own story!
Guanyin Ancient Cave is also a Van Yin Cave, and legend has it that it is the place where Guanyin appeared, and the Buddhist scriptures depict "Sanskrit Sea Chaoyin, Shengbi Worldly Sound" refers to here.
The two turtles listened to the magic stone, legend has it that Guanyin Daishi lectured on the pulpit and set Putuo Mountain as his own dojo, and originally this place belonged to the East China Sea Dragon King, and the dragon king first sent his two sacred turtles who had been practicing for thousands of years to eavesdrop on Guanyin's words, wanting to find flaws and then find fault to drive Guanyin Bodhisattva away, but the two turtles listened to it fascinated, and had the idea of taking refuge under the Guanyin seat, and the dragon king turned the two turtles into stone in anger. Scientists have specifically identified the age of turtle stone, confirming that it originated from the depths of the sea hundreds of millions of years ago, which further increases the mystery of turtle stone.
Rocks, boulders, on the top platform of the mountain, seem to be crumbling, but in fact they are stable as a rock. According to legend, this is where Guanyin Daishi said. The three characters of Pantuo stone were inscribed by the anti-Yan general Hou Jigao during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, and the word "stone" was a little more, it is said that when General Hou inscribed, the big stone swayed left and right, shaky, so he added a little to the stone character, and the panda stone was firmly fixed.
The Lying Bull Stone is on the west side of the Pada Stone, and legend has it that the cow fell asleep while listening to the Bodhisattva Guanyin, and turned it into stone as punishment. Tourists like to lie on cows, and legend has it that this can cure back pain!
