Hello everyone, I am Dr. Daming, and I will explain to you about hair coloring.
For people now, the standard of living has been greatly improved, so people are paying more and more attention to their quality of life in ordinary times.
For girls, they are born to love beauty, so in their usual life, people will often pack up their clothes and hairstyles, among which hair color is an important component of hairstyles.
However, recently, many people have said that regular hair dyeing can cause cancer, and this statement has caused many people to be afraid to dye their hair again! So, is there any scientific basis for this statement? People who often dye their hair may wish to take a look.
Can hair dyeing cause cancer? Harvard University spent 36 years surveying 120,000 people and finally came to a conclusion!
Hair dyeing has never been the preserve of young people! In order to cover the appearance of gray hair, middle-aged and elderly people dye their hair more frequently than many young people!
For many girls who love beauty, dyeing hair is the icing on the cake; For men and women with gray hair, hair dyeing is a rigid need to make themselves "younger". So in normal times, many people will often go to the barbershop to make their hair new.
However, for a long time, from time to time people come out to remind everyone that "hair dyeing causes cancer", although this practice will not affect most people's decision to dye hair, but in fact, there are many doubts in the heart, then, "hair dyeing causes cancer" is it reliable?
On September 2, 2020, the British Medical Journal, one of the world's top four medical journals, published a study on the relationship between the use of permanent hair dyes and cancer risk and mortality; The study began in 1976 and recruited 121,700 female U.S. nurses between the ages of 30 and 55.
For these female nurses, the researchers surveyed participants every two or four years, and the response rate was more than 90% during most follow-up periods, and the follow-up period was up to 36 years!
Finally, the researchers evaluated and analyzed hair color, age, lifestyle habits, etc., and came up with the answer.
The study and results, later published in the British Medical Journal, found that there is indeed a correlation between hair dyeing and certain cancers; If most of the hair dyes used in the hair dyeing process contain harmful substances such as m-phenylenediamine, o-phenylenediamine, and phenylenediamine, the principle is that they enter the hair in the form of small molecules.
The results of the study showed that:
Hair dyes may increase the incidence of breast and ovarian cancer by about 9%;
Hair dye can reduce the incidence of brain cancer and lung cancer by 28% and 6%, respectively;
There is no direct association between hair dye and cancer, and the risk of cancer is not obvious!
In other words, according to Harvard University, hair dye use may be associated with a small amount of cancer risk, but not with most cancers! Therefore, the use of hair dye is not carcinogenic as rumored to be, and there is no causal relationship between the two.
Among them, the most important is the probability keyword, increasing the probability of cancer and causing cancer is not the same thing.
Increasing the carcinogenic rate in the eyes of the public has the opposite meaning, that is, dyeing hair will cause cancer, but in fact, this is a wrong understanding. The accurate understanding should be: frequent hair dyeing increases the likelihood of cancer, and as for whether you will get cancer, it is uncertain.
Extension: What are the dangers of hair coloring?
1. Scalp damage
In the process of hair dyeing, in order to let people's hair absorb color as soon as possible, hair dye contains ingredients that can open the stratum corneum of hair; Regular use of hair dyes containing these ingredients can make hair poor, dull, split ends, break, or even fall out.
2. Hair loss
Hair coloring exposes people's hair to benzene chemicals, which can penetrate into the scalp and oxidize, causing damage to the scalp or hair follicles, which may lead to scalp allergies or hair loss!
3. Damage to liver and kidneys
Some hair dyes on the market today, although the effect of hair dyeing is very good, but often add a lot of heavy metals, especially some hair dye products have a very high lead content!
Therefore, long-term use of these hair dyes will cause chronic damage to the human body, lead poisoning will not only cause dizziness, abdominal pain and other symptoms, but also damage the liver, kidneys and other organ health.
