Mini LED market downturn: don't look at Hisense TCL desperately used, but the TV is too crotch-pulling

author:Jeff Perspective

From the current TV point of view, almost all well-known brands have their own Mini LED product line, especially the two domestic TV giants Hisense and TCL, which have launched a variety of Mini LED TVs at home and abroad. But is Mini LED really popularized and achieved good results? On the contrary, from the current statistics, the entire market of Mini LED is quite sluggish, don't look at so many Mini LED TVs and displays, but the entire Mini LED industry chain has not grown greatly, and the industry's previous expectations are actually far from the same.

On the one hand, this is because the current products of Mini LED are basically based on high-end products, and the price is relatively high, so although the TV has so much, it is not realistic to say that it is unrealistic to go a large amount, and the entire market is definitely not as good as ordinary LCD; On the other hand, in the high-end product part, Mini LED to face OLED competition, in some product lines, including displays and TVs, OLED may be favored by enthusiast users, which also affects the development of the entire Mini LED industry.

However, the most realistic problem is that in addition to monitors and TVs, Mini LED performance in other areas can be described as dismal, including notebooks and tablets. At present, there are few Mini LEDs for tablet computers and notebooks, ordinary products are still accustomed to LCD panels, high-end products use OLED panels, Mini LED is difficult to insert between these product areas, so related products are pitiful.

Originally, the suppliers of major Mini LED backlight modules hoped that notebooks could use Mini LED backlight modules in large quantities, but the reality is that high-end products all tend to OLED panels, and are almost monopolized by Samsung. This is mainly on the small size screen, to achieve more lamp beads and more backlight partitions, the need for the volume of the lamp beads is smaller, the process demand is higher, and the cost is higher, which is not as convenient as OLED, not to mention that because the notebook does not need too high brightness, OLED has the dual advantages of picture quality and cost, and can also be sold at a higher price, how the manufacturer chooses is self-evident.

In addition, taking the industry leader Apple as an example, although Apple now uses Mini LED in many products, but Mini LED is more like a transitional product, Apple will soon upgrade tablets, notebooks and other products to OLED panels, Samsung, BOE and LG are preparing for this. In the past, some large display manufacturers, such as Samsung, LG, etc., also focused more on OLED displays, and Mini LED has less and less influence in the non-TV market.

Judging from the performance of Taiwan's well-known Mini LED manufacturer, the revenue of Mini LED in the first quarter of this year fell by 40%, and it seems that there is no possibility of growth in the second quarter. This is mainly in tablets and notebooks, and no manufacturer is willing to use Mini LED backlight technology. Everyone now puts the hope of Mini LED growth in the second half of the year in the field of display and automotive, but personally I think it is still very difficult, after all, many domestic manufacturers are now willing to use cheap Mini LED solutions.

The biggest problem with Mini LED now is the cost, no matter what product specifications are too high, the price will be close to OLED, so that in the picture quality competition, in addition to brightness other than other advantages; If the specifications are relatively general, people may be more willing to buy lower priced LCD products, especially in the field of displays, tablets and notebooks. But there is not much time left for Mini LED, OLED is now more mature, Micro LED is poised to go, so that Mini LED to continue to develop in the high-end can only be more difficult.

Samsung will release mainstream size Micro LED TVs this year, and many supply chain manufacturers' Micro LED production lines will gradually start in the second half of the year. From our point of view, Mini LED as a transitional technology, the biggest possibility in the future is only as an enhanced version of LCD, no matter how high the specification, it may be difficult to compete with OLED and Micro LED. This will put Mini LED in an awkward situation, especially those high-specification Mini LED backlight modules. Therefore, Hisense and TCL can now roll Mini LED TV to a relatively low price on TV, which is actually the general trend!
