The water is clean and the beach is clean, and the shore is green and beautiful. Located at the easternmost tip of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Shenzhen-Shantou Special Cooperation Zone has an ecological pattern of one bay, one screen, three mountains, three rivers and multiple corridors, and has unique natural geographical advantages.

In 2022, the Shenzhen-Shantou Special Cooperation Zone launched the biodiversity survey of key areas for the first time, including eight key areas: Shenshan Shuidishan County Forest Park, Shenzhen Shantou Yuandun Triangle Mountain County Forest Park, Shenzhen Shantou Lianhuashan County Forest Park, Shenzhen Shantou Jiulong Bay Marine Ecological Municipal Nature Reserve, Xiajing Reservoir, Yaopi Reservoir, Simaling Reservoir and Xiaomo Reservoir, filling the gaps in biodiversity investigation in the jurisdiction.

At present, the investigation work has achieved phased results, and 6 species of wild plants under national II. key protection have been recorded, namely water fern, cycad fern, earth agarwood, golden retriever, black alder and soft pod red bean. There are 17 species of wild animals under national II. key protection, namely tiger-striped frog, Hong Kong turbulent frog, peregrine falcon, black-winged kite, crested humming, snake eagle, thrush, black-crowned falcon, black kite, red-billed acacia, brown-winged crow, small crow, white-breasted jade, black-throated noisy stork, white egret, red-throated songbird, and ocelot.

"Different investigation methods are used for animals and plants of different taxa, among which the investigation of medium and large mammals is to use a sample method to deploy infrared trigger cameras, set up infrared trigger cameras in areas with dense animal activities, wild animals pass through the lens, their body temperature will cause a temperature difference with the ambient temperature will trigger the camera to shoot, this is how the ocelot is monitored." Investigation technicians remind that when citizens go out to see wild animals and plants, they should not kill wild animals, do not collect rare and endangered wild plants, escort the survival and reproduction of wild animals and plants, and consciously abide by the laws and regulations protecting wild animals and plants.

The relevant person in charge of the Shenzhen-Shantou Management Bureau of the Municipal Ecology and Environment Bureau told reporters that the overall wildlife resources of the Shenzhen-Shantou Special Cooperation Zone are rich, with Lotus Mountain, Underwater Mountain, Triangle Mountain and Jiulong Bay being more prominent. This year, it is planned to continue the biodiversity survey, and tentatively add the Nanshan area in eastern Shenzhen to the survey area last year.
