From 1955 to 1964, there were 1614 founding generals, of whom 327 were from Jiangxi.

Jiangxi is not only the first general province, but also produced 13 hundred-year-old generals, of which the founding major general Zou Yan, who is still alive, was born in Xingguo, Jiangxi in November 1915, at the age of 106.

General Zou Yan fought all his life, but he never killed the enemy with his own hands, and the only execution order he signed was to execute the giant bandit "Mountain Eagle" of Weihu Mountain. The story of "Outwitting Weihu Mountain" can be passed down thanks to Zou Yan and Qu Bo.

General Zou Yan

Zou Yan, also known as Zou Yantao, was born in 1915 in Xiaguang Village, Chongxian Township, Xingguo, Jiangxi.

Xingguo County was a general county, and the revolution was surging during the Red Army period. Zou Yan studied intermittently for 5 years, dropped out of school because his family was poor, and helped his parents do farm work at a very young age. When he was 13 years old, a Red Army came to Chongxian Township, and Zou Yan and his father Zou Qingfang secretly joined the peasant association as small traffic workers.

In the spring of 1929, the Red Army came to Xingguo to expand the red recruitment, Zou Yanxing rushed to register, but the recruiters saw that he was short and did not want to accept, Zou Yan rubbed for 5 days without results. Undeterred, Zou Yan continued to cooperate with guerrilla activities. Soon the opportunity came, and in September 1930, the townships of Xingguo sent Young Pioneer cadres to the Red Army School for training, and Zou Yan was the representative of Chongxian Township.

As soon as he arrived at the school, Zou Yan heard the chairman's wonderful speech class, and the content of the lecture was only one word: points.

The chairman told everyone: Why are the peasant brothers working hard day by day and year after year, but they are so destitute? Why do landlords and gentry not cultivate land and do not work, but they do not worry about eating and drinking? Why is it that most of the crops that the peasants have worked so hard to plant, but most of the fruits of their labor have been collected by the landlords?

The Chairman said that this was exploitation. To divide is to divide the land among the local tycoons and set up soviets in which the poor are the masters of their own affairs.

After listening to the chairman's lesson, 15-year-old Zou Yan lit a bright lamp in his heart, and secretly made up his mind that when the Red Army not only had to eat enough for itself, but also fight for the poor, no matter what difficulties it encountered, it would follow the chairman.

Founding Major General Zou Yan

Soon, the opportunity for Zou Yan to perform came. In early October, he took part in the attack on Ji'an County. The Red Guards launched 8 attacks in a row, all of which returned because of the fortifications of the enemy army, and the Red Guards also killed and wounded many people, and the captain was very anxious.

Inadvertently, the captain of the brigade saw The little Zou Yan in the peasant army team, and Zou Yan said to the captain: "It is too hard to fight like this, it is not a good idea." The captain looked at Zou Yan, who was not yet as tall as a rifle: "You little boy also knows how to fight?" Zou Yan replied solemnly: "Mr. Storyteller said that in ancient times, there was a field list, and he would use a fire bull array." ”

The captain of the brigade even praised Zou Yan a lot of ideas, but immediately worried again: "Where to find so many cattle?" ”

Zou Yan had his own way, and he took the initiative to ask Miao to summon the Young Playmates of the Red Guards to return to the village to find cattle. Zou Yan ran to the ancestral hall of his village to ring the bell and gather the township party members to "borrow" cattle. The effort is not big, one person brought back more than 30 cows, plus the contributions of the small partners, adding up to more than 100 heads. The Red Guards soldiers were overjoyed and hurried to tie knives to the horns of the bulls, hang firecrackers from their tails, and put straw on their bodies.

The ninth offensive began, and as the fire bull array rushed to the enemy position, the enemy officers and men had already turned their legs and stomachs when they saw this crazy position, and the Red Army Red Guards and peasant troops swarmed up and took the opportunity to occupy the enemy position, and soon the county town of Ji'an was also occupied by the Red Army. However, what made Zou Yan sad was that many young partners also gave their lives in the battle.

After conquering Ji'an, Zou Yan was incorporated into the Red 20th Army and the Red 22nd Army with more than 2,000 Red Guards. Zou Yan was almost rejected again, but Zou Yan was finally accepted this time and was assigned to the Political Department of the Red 12 Army as a propagandist.

The Red 20th Army suffered heavy casualties in Jiangxi, and in July 1931 only 1 regiment remained, which was incorporated into the 64th Division of the Red 7th Army. Together with Zou Yan, more than 2,000 Red Guards in Chongxian Township of the Red Army participated, most of which had died heroically.

After the third anti-"encirclement and suppression" campaign, Zou Yan served as Luo Ronghuan's guard. In the fifth anti-"encirclement and suppression" defense battle of Guangchang, Zou Yan reconnoitred the enemy's situation and found that the enemy army was encircling the Red Army, and quickly returned to report, and Luo Ronghuan moved to safety in time.

In October 1934, the Red Army began a strategic shift, and Zou Yan was transferred to the General Political Communications Squad.

On the Long March Road, Zou Yan established a deep friendship with Li Fuchun, director of the General Political Department, and Sister Cai Chang.

In June 1935, the Red Army crossed tibetan areas to reach the foot of Jiajin Mountain, where there was snow all year round. Since there was no cotton coat, Sister Cai Chang taught Zou Yan to make a "cotton coat", and the two single clothes were sewn together and filled with cloth strips, confetti and other things.

Jiajin Mountain has four seasons a day, the bottom of the mountain is warm, but to the mountainside wind and rain, hail and snow on the top of the mountain, some Red Army soldiers have difficulty breathing, dizzy, but once they sit down, they can no longer stand up. With the cotton clothes modified by Cai Chang's eldest sister Tufa, Zou Yan and the "Red Little Devil" of the communication class were lucky to defeat the God of Death and cross several snowy mountains.

In the spring of 1937, Zou Yan, director of the Dingbian Security Sub-Bureau (front row, first from right)

After the Long March arrived in northern Shaanxi, Zou Yan served as the chief of the security section.

During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Zou Yan served as the director of the Gansu Huachi Security Bureau, the director of the Dingbian Security Bureau, the director of the Political Office of the Security Department of the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region, and the commander of the garrison of the Southern District of Yan'an, and made great contributions to the defense of Yan'an, and in 1942 he was rated as a model worker in the border area.

In the spring of 1946, Zou Yan became the director of the political department of the Mudanjiang Military Sub-district and went to the high mountains and dense forests to suppress bandits.

Before liberation, there were many bandits in the northeast, and the first echelon was Xie Wendong, Li Huatang, Zhang Yuxin, and Sun Rongjiu, the "four fierce bandits", followed by Zhang Leshan, the "mountain carving" and others. In order to suppress Xie Wendong, Ma Xishan, and other bandits, the Northeast Democratic Coalition Army sent 3 columns and 2 detachments to Hailin to cooperate in suppressing the bandits. Soon, a large group of bandits was eliminated, and small groups sneaked into the deep mountains and old forests.

Yang Zirong, a soldier of the 7th Company of the 2nd Detachment and 2 regiments of the Mudanjiang Military Subdistrict, persuaded more than 400 bandits to surrender in one battle in the suppression of bandits, which made Zou Yan look at him with astonishment. Soon, Yang Zirong's action of outwitting the "mountain carving" gave Zou Yan an extra layer of understanding of this Shandong Hanzi.

The name of the "mountain carving" is Zhang Leshan, there are not many people and horses, but the harm is extremely great, and the people hate it to the bone. The plaster of the People's Liberation Army is like a cannon hitting mosquitoes without effect. Yang Zirong, the leader of the reconnaissance platoon, led the squad to disguise themselves as bandits and braved the snow into the skin ditch.

They first captured a bandit and a company commander, and a "black talk" posed as the aide-de-camp of Wu Sanhu, the leader of the Dongning bandits who had been suppressed, and came to the "Third Master." The two bandits introduced Yang Zirong and others to see the mountain eagle, and the squad tied up 25 bandits on the spot and escorted them down the mountain. Soon, Zou Yan, director of the political department of the Mudanjiang Military Sub-district, signed an order to shoot the "mountain eagle" on the spot after the public trial.

Yang Zirong

On February 19, 1947, the Northeast Daily reported the deeds of Yang Zirongzhi's capture of the "mountain carving".

Zou Yan communicated with the deputy political commissar of the 2nd Regiment many times, and the deputy political commissar encouraged him to write a story about Yang Zirong. Qu Bo began to deliberately collect materials from Yang Zirong and others. What is frustrating is that 4 days later, Yang Zirong led people to chase and annihilate the bandits Zheng Sancang and Liu Huanzhang in The Noisy Zhigou. Yang Zirong, who took the lead in rushing into the bandit's den, did not sound, and was shot in the chest by the bandit and died, only 30 years old.

After completing the task of suppressing bandits, the 2nd Regiment was organized into the Higashino 1 Column. Later, Qu Bo was seriously wounded in the Liaoshen Campaign and transferred to the local government in 1950. In 1957, "Lin Hai Xueyuan" was published, at this time Yang Zirong had been sacrificed for 10 years. Qu Bo died in 2002 at the age of 79.

Zou Yan served as the political commissar of the 8th Division of the Dongye First Corps and the political commissar of the 160th Division of the 47th Army, and participated in the battles of Liaoshen and Pingjin.

In February 1949, Zou Yan, political commissar of the 160th Division of the 47th Army, and Wu Lie, commander of the 133rd Division of the 45th Army, were sought to talk to by Luo Ronghuan, political commissar of Siye, and Liu Yalou, chief of staff, and the original 160th Division was changed to the 207th Division garrison Beiping.

Zou Yan and Wu Lie did not live up to their instructions and led the ministry to defend the organs and factories. The 207th Division also contributed many of its leaders' guards and was known as the "Red Royal Forest Army".

After the outbreak of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, Zou Yan was transferred to the post of deputy political commissar of the Northeast Public Security Force. In October 1952, Zou Yan captured more than 110 enemy special forces in one fell swoop. On November 29, a US plane was shot down and CIA spies Donnai and Fektu were captured alive, which caused a sensation in the world for a time.

Zou Yan later served as the political commissar of the 50th Army and the deputy political commissar of the Shenyang Military Region, and was awarded the rank of major general in 1955.

Today, the old general Zou Yan is 106 years old.
