The reason why "Journey to the West" is in double quotation marks here is because in the film, although the characters are taken from "Journey to the West", the story content of the film is created by the screenwriters themselves.
Our previous film and television drama works adapted from "Journey to the West" are often criticized as nonsense, mainly because these adapted works do not follow the original story, and tamper with the characters in many original novels, which will cause a certain amount of audience, fan misunderstanding and so on. So, should this "Journey to the West Red Child" starring Xu Dongdong be classified as a random fabrication?
My personal opinion is that the story in this movie, although it does not conform to the content of the original novel, but in the adaptation, it has done a relatively good deal with it, and the integration of the story is very high, which should be regarded as having its own unique value. In particular, the story of the red child, and the story of the Iron Fan Princess and the Flame Mountain are effectively integrated together, such a screenwriting method, and the theme content that the film ultimately wants to present, are all desirable.
In the film, the four Tang monks and apprentices come to the village next to the Flame Mountain. And the red child here is preparing a birthday gift for his mother. The red child's mother, Princess Iron Fan, and father, the Bull Demon King, were doing serious things on the Flame Mountain. It turned out that the Flame Mountain had been on fire since the remnants of Taishang Laojun's alchemy furnace had fallen, and demons had formed in the fire. The Iron Fan Princess and her husband and wife have fought against the fiery demons of the Flame Mountain in these hundreds of years, so as to save the surrounding people from the pain of the fire.
In this film work, the Iron Fan Princess does not have a banana fan, and it is not that she ignores the matter of the Flame Mountain. On the contrary, the Iron Fan Princess and her husband and wife, for the matter of the Flame Mountain, can be said to have bowed down to the best. In order to fight against the Fire Demon, Princess Iron Fan and her husband did not even have time to educate their sons. In the end, this red child who grew up eating a hundred meals was a bit unlearned. Seduced by the monster, the red child prepares to capture Tang Monk as a birthday gift for his mother.
Of course, Princess Tiefan and her husband did not dare to ask for such a birthday gift from Tang Monk. However, the red child formed a grudge with Sun Wukong and fought hard. In the end, the Red Child's Fire Demon became the biggest demon head of the Flame Mountain, and truly reached the state of going into the fire. Therefore, Sun Wukong, Princess Iron Fan and others are faced with the problem of how to save the red child. In the film's story attack stage, Tang Monk took the lead in disregarding personal life and death, trying to transform the red child through the True Sutra of the Buddhist Family.
At this moment, Sun Wukong replaced the Iron Fan Princess and saved the red child in the form of a drop of rain and dew. The ending part of the film is not a spoiler. In the end, the red child became a disciple of Guanyin Bodhisattva, and the Iron Fan Princess and her husband and wife were also happy to see him succeed. Such a film work, is it respectful of the original work? Or do you not respect the original novel of Journey to the West? Judging from the ending of the story, this ending finally revolves back to the original work of "Journey to the West". Of course, the main content of the story is the effective integration of the screenwriters' content of the red child and the iron fan princess.
What I personally like is that in this film, Princess Iron Fan becomes a person who is particularly concerned about the well-being of the people of Flame Mountain. It can be said that this is a very responsible female comrade, and even because of her due diligence in her work, she has caused delays in her son's education. At this point, this iron fan princess is very cute and respectable. Coupled with Xu Dongdong's performance, it really gives people a sense of love, so that many fans feel that this iron fan princess can be convincing.
In terms of points of view, in this film work, the sutra team can be described as fully funny. Especially in the case of Tang monks, this state of nagging and nagging not only resembles many of Zhou Xingchi's Tang monk-themed films, but also does conform to the image of Tang monks in the original novel of "Journey to the West". The actors of Pig Eight Commandments and Sha Wujing are also talented for being funny. In terms of Monkey King, compared with the classic version of Sun Wukong, it is indeed almost meaningless. However, in the film, he is mainly responsible for the play, and the rest seems to be harmless.
