Early life experience

In 2007, he began figure skating with coach Oksana Bulycheva at Sambo 70. In the 2013–14 season, he moved to Eteri Tutberidze for training, but was dropped out of the group because he could not learn the three-week jump, but then returned to the Eteri Tutberidze group by finding a personal trainer to learn all but the three-week jump (3Axel).

2016-2017 season

Shcherbakova won gold at the 2016 Russian Junior Championships. On Christmas of the same year, he missed the 2017 Russian Figure Skating Youth Championships because he accidentally fell into his home swimming pool and fractured his arm. Back on the field, she won silver at the 2017 Russian Junior Championships.

2017-2018 season

In the summer of 2017, Shcherbakova suffered a broken leg from an injury during training, which led to her missing most of the 17–18 season, including her planned figure skating junior Grand Prix debut. At the end of 2017, she finished 13th at the Russian Junior Figure Skating Championships.

2018-2019 season

Shcherbakova made her international debut at the figure skating Junior Grand Prix series. In Slovakia, she finished first in both the short and long song events, winning gold medals, and was 18 points ahead of the silver medalist. On the Canadian legs, he once again ranked first in the short and long song events. Shcherbakova won two gold medals in the races, which also earned her a place in the figure skating Junior Grand Prix finals. In the finals, Shcherbakova did not play well and ended up finishing fifth.

At the 2019 Russian National Figure Skating Championships, Shcherbakova finished fifth in the short song event. On the second day of the competition, she perfectly executed all elements of the long song event, including a hook and four jumps (4Lz), and achieved the best score of 155.69 points out of all the contestants, with a total score of 229.78 points, which also earned her the title of Russian champion.

At the Russian Junior Figure Skating Championships the following month, Shcherbakova finished second in the short song category. In the long song event, he failed to complete the hook and four jumps (4Lz), and finally won the bronze medal.

Shcherbakova then represented Russia at the 2019 European Youth Olympic Festival, but crashed into a baffle to avoid colliding with a Ukrainian athlete during pre-competition practice, causing discomfort in her thigh. He was unable to complete the hook jump (4Lz) in the long song event, but relied on the steady play of other moves and the lead of the short program to win the gold medal and lead by 29 points ahead of the silver medalist.

Shcherbakova, who won gold at the Russian National Championships and bronze at the Russian Flower Junior Championships, qualified for the 2019 World Junior Figure Skating Championships in March. After the short song program, he scored 72.86 points to rank first. In the long song event, the hook hand jumping (4Lz) failed to fall off the ice perfectly, and finally won the silver medal with a total score of 219.94 points.

2019-2020 season

Shcherbakova competed for the first time in the ISU International Senior Competition, the Lombardy Cup 2019. After the short program, she followed Tuktamisheva and Yuyan in third place. Her 4Lz finish in the Long Song event made her the first woman to complete the 4Lz in the senior competition, and also won her first gold medal in the senior competition.

Subsequently, Shcherbakova made her debut at the International Skating Union Figure Skating Grand Prix Series. In the United States, she finished fourth in the short program and first place in the long song category. In this competition, she became the first woman to complete two quadruple jumps in the international free skate, and the first woman to complete the hook four-week jump followed by the outside point ice triple jump (4Lz+3T), becoming the second female athlete after Alexandra Trusova to score more than 160 points. Shcherbakova also set the record for the highest score in single and consecutive jumps, scoring 14.79 points for her hook four jump (4Lz) and 18.66 points for the outside point ice triple jump (4Lz+3T) after the hook four jump. Shcherbakova also won gold at the second China Cup.

Shcherbakova's results in the sub-stations allowed her to qualify for the Turin Grand Prix finals. At the 2020 Russian National Championships, Shcherbakova finished second in the short song category, 10 points behind number one Alona Kostonaya. At the 2020 European Championships, Shcherbakova finished second in the short song category. In the long song event, she completed the hook four-week jump followed by the outer point ice three-week jump (4Lz+3T), the back inner point ice four-week jump (4F), and then fell on the second hook four-week jump (4Lz), although she failed to complete it, she ranked first in the long song event and finally won the silver medal. 2020-2021 season

Shcherbakova announced that she will compete in the 2020-21 Russian Cup series, where she won gold with 246.40 points and 239.91 points in Sezland and Sochi respectively.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the International Skating Federation announced that this season's ISU Figure Skating Grand Prix will be held on a geographical basis. In November, Shcherbakova and other Russian skaters were assigned to the Russian Grand Prix of Figure Skating, but she withdrew that day due to illness, and later revealed that she had coronavirus.

Recovering from the coronavirus, Shcherbakova had limited training ability before the 2021 Russian Figure Skating National Championships, leading the other skaters with 80.31 points in the short program, and in the long song event, she completed a hook four jump (4Lz) and a back inside point ice jump (4F), which won her gold medal. Shcherbakova is also the first female player to win three Russian championship titles after Irina Slutskaya (1999~2001). In addition, she will compete in the 2021 World Figure Skating Championships in Stockholm.

Before the World Figure Skating Championships, Shcherbakova participated in the 2021 Russian Figure Skating Channel 1 Cup, organized by the Russian Skating Association with Channel One, where she was assigned to the Red Machine team composed of captain Alina Zagitova. Shcherbakova finished second in both events, and her team, Red Machine, eventually won.

Shcherbakova and silver medallist Tuktamisheva also secured three spots for Russia at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

Shcherbakova was part of the Russian team at the World Figure Skating Team Championships in April, defeating teammate Tuktamisheva by one point in the short program, and after the long song, she finished first in the overall result, and eventually the Russian team also won the gold medal.

2021-2022 season

In the summer of 2021, Shcherbakova missed training camp due to a broken toe. She made her Olympic debut at the Russian Test in September, but her toes still haven't healed, so she didn't add any quad jumps to the long tune. Then at the Budapest Cup in October, Shcherbakova led the short program, but won silver in the long music event due to a mistake in the opening 4F.

Shcherbakova's first figure skating Grand Prix was originally held in China, but she was rescheduled to Italy after the pandemic was cancelled. In the short program, he ranked third due to a mistake in consecutive jumps, but he successfully jumped out of the long song event and jumped around the ice (4F), and finally won the gold medal with a new personal high of 165.05 points in the long song. At the 2022 Russian Figure Skating National Championships, Shcherbakova finished second in the short program, behind Kamila Valieva. But she fell on the only four weeks of the Long Song event and won bronze. Shcherbakova was scheduled to compete in the European Figure Skating Championships in Tallinn, where she failed to perform a jump combination after three weeks of jumping and falling, finishing fourth after the short program. She completed all the jumps in the Long Song event, including a back inside point ice quad jump (4F), eventually winning a silver medal. On January 20, the Russian Figure Skating Association announced that Shcherbakova will compete in the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.

Shcherbakova, who made her debut at the 2022 Winter Olympics, trailed Valieva by 1.94 points with 80.20 points in the short program, 0.36 points ahead of third-place Hanori Sakamoto, and a perfect performance put her in second place. In the long song event, Shcherbakova once again completed all the jumps, including a back inside ice four-week jump followed by a three-week jump (4F+3T) and a back inside ice four-week jump (4F), once again breaking a new personal high of 175.75 and a total score of 255.95. In the end, Shcherbakova won the gold medal in the women's singles event at the 2022 Winter Olympics.
