The new ACADEMY MUSEUM OF MOTION PICTURES in Los Angeles is a big step forward for the film industry. It is the first institution in the United States to focus on exploring the arts and sciences of filmmaking and filmmaking. When the cylindrical shape was restored, more than 350,000 of the original hand-laid tiles were laid, of which about 35% were replaced by new tiles. The new tiles are made from ossoni, an original manufacturer from Venice, Italy.
The Saban building was also quarried from Austin, Texas, to restore historic building facades.
Housed in a futuristic spherical building, The Geffen Theater once joked, "Don't call it death star (the fictional space fortress in the Star Wars films), call it Zeppelin, it will take you to different worlds of Zeppelin."
Movie star Tom Hanks, who is a member of the museum's board of directors, said: "It's so important to have this film museum in Los Angeles... Other cities have movie museums, and Los Angeles finally has a movie museum, and it's time to have one." He also said the museum would become parthenon for such a place.
The museum has two theatres: the David Geffen Cinema and the Tedman Cinema. The largest is the 1,000-seat David Geffen Cinema, housed in spherical precast concrete topped by a panoramic roofed Dolby Terrace, which itself is covered with a futuristic transparent glass dome. Above the theater, the entire theater is illuminated by a point light source, and its dot lights flicker like stars, catching people's eyes and making people feel as if they are in the starry sky. The theater also boasts luxurious red seats capable of screening 35mm, 70mm, digital and film films, and is also home to the 2020 Oscars.
