3. Relevant regulations of Kenya Customs

In 1994, Kenya abolished exchange controls, and there is no monetary limit for bringing foreign currency into the country, but those who bring more than 500,000 Ken shillings out of the country need to obtain prior written permission from the Central Bank of Kenya. Those who bring photographic equipment into the country must make a declaration at the time of customs clearance.

Kenya attaches great importance to the protection of wild animals, and strictly prohibits the carrying, trading and export of original wild animals and plants such as rhino horn, ivory and turtles. Those who bring prohibited items into or out of the country face severe penalties and hefty fines if they are caught.

Kenya has fully implemented the "plastic bag ban" on August 28, 2017, prohibiting the use, manufacture and import of all hand-held plastic bags and flat-bottomed plastic bags for commercial and household use in Kenya, and violators will be punished by imprisonment for one to four years or a fine of US$19,000 to US$38,000. Do not bring prohibited plastic bags into Kenya, and do not use prohibited plastic bags when shopping, traveling and disposing of daily garbage.
