Lin Yi (1917-2000), a native of Hua County, Shaanxi Province, was a founding colonel (promoted to major general in 1964).
In 1936, he was admitted to Xi'an Senior High School, and in the same year, he joined the Chinese National Liberation Vanguard. In 1938, he entered the Yan'an Anti-Japanese Military and Political University to study, and joined the Communist Party of China in the same year.
