According to Matsui, she learned that she had tested positive for her nucleic acid test by calling the testing agency personnel to notify the test results. When she woke up the next morning, she began to have a sore throat, fatigue and fever, so she realized that "all the symptoms of pneumonia appeared."

For the next 2 days, she continued to have a fever with a body temperature in the range of 38.5 to 39 degrees.
