"Li Xiande is regarded as a heroic protagonist in the TV series, but in reality, Li Xiande is a treacherous betrayer who betrays the trust and commitment of Taiwan's ethnic minorities to him and guides the Japanese army to slaughter them."
Yang Du believes that Li Xiande is "the first person to sell Taiwan." He criticized it even more bitterly —
"I don't know how Gongshi made it, but to heroize and beautify Li Xian is another insult to the slaughtered, and it is a violation of the dignity of the Taiwanese who have been betrayed."
As soon as Yang Du's article came out, Ye Qingyuan, chairman of the Kuomintang Examination and Discipline Committee, and Gao Jinsumei, a non-party member of the People's Congress, both forwarded it on Facebook.

Gao Jinsumei specifically posted a passage from Yang Du's article emphasizing Li Xiande's "renewed insult to the slaughtered Taiwanese ethnic minorities" on her Facebook page to show her emphasis and anger.

Taiwan ethnic minority scholar and professor of the Department of Sociology of Sun Yat-sen University, Tai Bang Sashale, believes that "Scalo" is adapted from the novel "Puppet Flower", and "Puppet Flower" originally did not beautify Li Xiande, mainly to present the interaction between ethnic minorities and outsiders in southern Taiwan in the 19th century. Chen Yaochang, the original author, also said that his original intention was to depict Taiwan's good mountains and rivers, and did not have the intention of beautifying "Taiwan traitors."
