On February 20, Changping police received reports from people that someone had illegally purchased wild animals.

After receiving the clue, the forest public security brigade of the substation and the Machikou police station quickly carried out work, and quickly locked the suspect Feng Mou (male, 23 years old).

After further investigation by the police handling the case, it was found that the suspect Feng Mou purchased a climbing pet lizard through a WeChat friend on February 10, and after identification by the relevant departments, the lizard was a "black and white Taiga lizard", which was listed in Appendix II of the International Convention on Endangered Wild Fauna and Flora, that is, a national second-level key protected wild animal.

On the basis of relevant evidence, the Machikou police station arrested Feng in a residential area in Changping on February 22.

After review, Feng confessed to the illegal and criminal facts of suspected illegal acquisition and sale of rare and endangered wild animals.

According to Feng's account: on February 10, he met a merchant who sold climbing pets through online channels, and added his WeChat friends, in the consultation process, the merchant recommended a lizard to Feng, and said that this is a national second-level protected animal, Feng is very fond of, and at a price of 7,000 yuan for acquisition.

According to the clues given by Feng Mou, the police handling the case locked the criminal suspect Wang Moumou (male, 34 years old) who illegally sold wild animals under national key protection to him, and arrested him in an antique city in Haidian on February 22.

At present, the two criminal suspects, Feng X and Wang X, have been criminally detained by the Changping police in accordance with the law, and the case is under further work.

It is understood that according to the relevant provisions of the Criminal Law of the People's Republic of China, whoever illegally acquires, transports or sells rare and endangered wild animals under key national protection and their products shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not more than five years or criminal detention and shall also be fined; If the circumstances are serious, he shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not less than five years but not more than ten years and shall also be fined; If the circumstances are particularly serious, he shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not less than 10 years and shall also be fined or have his property confiscated.
