From February 27 to March 2, the Mobile World Congress 2023, hosted by the Global System for Mobile Communications Association, was held in Barcelona, Spain. Participants discussed topics such as new 5G momentum, digitalization and financial technology. The Conference called for enhanced international cooperation to bridge the technological divide for a sustainable future.

Mobile World Congress is one of the grand events in the mobile communication industry. With the theme of "Time is not waiting", this year's conference attracted more than 2,000 enterprises from more than 200 countries and regions around the world. At the four-day conference, Chinese communication and technology enterprises showed the world the latest achievements in the field of cutting-edge communication and electronic technology, which attracted great attention. John Hoffman, CEO of the Global Mobile Communications System Association, told this reporter: "China has built the world's largest and most technologically advanced 5G network infrastructure and has the largest number of 5G users in the world. It is believed that through this conference, Chinese enterprises will share more technological development experience and stories with the world. ”

5G accelerates industrial transformation and development

Put on your virtual reality glasses and follow the green arrows on the screen as you pass through some of Barcelona's most famous attractions: the grassy Park Güell, the floral Ramblas, the breezy beaches of Barcelona... This is one of the multi-sensory experiences unveiled at the Mobile World Capital Barcelona booth at Mobile World Congress.

In recent years, with the in-depth application of 5G technology, future application scenarios and immersive experiences based on 5G technology, such as virtual reality, augmented reality, and metaverse, are fundamentally changing people's lives and work. According to the annual Global Mobile Economy Report released by the GSM during the conference, by 2029, 5G technology will surpass 4G technology to become the world's leading mobile communication technology; By 2030, the number of 5G users is expected to reach 5 billion, and it is expected to create nearly $1 trillion in revenue that year, of which the service industry and manufacturing are the biggest beneficiaries.

"We see that 5G iteration and continuous improvement of infrastructure construction are helping Africa accelerate its development." John Omo, Secretary-General of the African Telecommunication Union, gave an example that Huawei of China has provided technical and equipment support for the digital transformation of mines in South Africa, helping them improve management, production efficiency and safety.

At the Odistan Corrugated Carton Factory in Zhejiang Province, China, China Mobile and ZTE built an intelligent industrial cloud base station with unique edge computing engine technology to achieve full coverage of 5G private networks and device interconnection within the production area. On the video, 5G automatic navigation robots shuttle through the factory, using machine vision and other technologies to achieve accurate pickup, delivery, and collaboration. On-site images can be transmitted back to the control end in real time, which is convenient for remote analysis and management.

From the rapid networking of production and sensing equipment, to the accurate collection of data information, to the safe and effective control of the region, the efficiency of material flow has been greatly improved, and the storage operation has achieved more accurate management... With its exploration and innovation in the field of 5G-enabled digital factories, the project won the 2023 "5G Intelligent Manufacturing Challenge Award" of the Global Mobile Communication System Association.

"Today, the roles of those working in the communications industry are rapidly shifting." Wang Xiyu, executive vice president and chief technology officer of ZTE Corporation, said that the rapid iteration of the communications industry has turned many original "impossible" into "possible" and become an important boost to social transformation.

The Internet of Everything makes life smarter

Hold the sensors on both sides of the health detector with one hand, and gently press the oximeter at the top of the detector with the thumb of the other hand, and after 30 seconds, the display screen will display the results such as body temperature, heart rate and blood oxygen saturation at the same time; An electronic stethoscope allows for convenient cardiopulmonary auscultation; By connecting to the relevant app, users can also comprehensively record and manage the health data of individuals and family members. At the OPPO booth, this mouse-sized home smart health monitor attracted many visitors. "I'm looking forward to buying a product like this for my family, it will help us manage our health more easily." David said, a Spanish visitor who lined up to experience the health monitor.

A number of Chinese brand smartphones have also become the focus of market and media attention. In front of the Honor mobile phone booth, a screen simulating a basket made many visitors eager to try it out, taking pictures while jumping shots. The "Professional Evaluation" website, a well-known British consumer technology evaluation media, reported that the flagship model released by Honor at the conference uses the "Falcon algorithm", which can clearly capture and focus on moving objects and subjects, which is very suitable for use in sports events and other scenarios, "This product is impressive."

Greedt, President of the Global Mobile Communications System Association, said: "Everything is connected, and the world is like a screen, changing our lives in ways that were unimaginable before. Today's connectivity is defined by speed, security, and agility, and tomorrow's connectivity will also be defined by processing power, capacity reliability, and customizability. ”

During the conference, Qualcomm, Microsoft and other enterprises and related parties demonstrated "connecting new skills". SK Telecom, South Korea's largest telecommunications operator, and others demonstrated AI applications in various fields such as security, healthcare, smart cities, and transportation. With the expansion of industry applications and the scope of human activities, the advantages of global coverage of satellite communication have begun to appear. Qualcomm and Huawei have both targeted satellite communication technology to promote the realization of the Internet of Everything.

Join hands with all parties to deepen digital technology cooperation

About 150 Chinese telecommunications and technology companies, including China Mobile, China Unicom, China Telecom, Huawei, ZTE and Xiaomi, attended the conference, and the digital technologies displayed by Chinese enterprises at the conference are empowering global development, especially the sustainable development of developing countries.

Walking into Hall 1 of the conference, Huawei's booth of 9,000 square meters was crowded. The booth combined cutting-edge technologies with business routes, showcasing commercial-ready solutions and visions for future technologies, and invited 15 leading operators from Spain, Brazil, UAE, Turkey, Ethiopia and other countries to share case studies. Mobile World Congress Barcelona president Francesco Fajura told reporters that this was the largest booth ever at the show. "In recent years, Chinese enterprises have worked closely with international institutions and operators in various countries, which has not only improved the 5G application capabilities of various countries, but also provided opportunities for many countries to cultivate young digital talents."

As the world pays more attention to low-carbon emission reduction, Chinese enterprises are actively working with domestic and foreign partners to help achieve carbon peak and carbon neutrality in the field of information and communication. In Chile, Protect the Islands partnered with Lenovo Group to launch a collaborative project called "Technology for People" in the Robinson Crusoe Island community. Volunteers from different industry backgrounds and expertise came to the island to work with the local community to promote community technology upgrades, update education and digital tools, and help protect the ecology and cultural heritage. Lenovo built a cutting-edge technology center specifically for the project, equipping volunteers and island staff with laptops, smart augmented reality glasses and smart home devices, and providing online educational software to local schools. At present, the technical center has benefited about 30% of the local residents.

During the conference, Huawei announced that it will join the UNESCO Global Literacy Alliance and will work with all parties to promote the use of technology to improve cultural literacy. "Strengthening digital education to ensure that all countries and all people are not left behind can achieve truly sustainable development." David Acholena, director of the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning, told reporters that thanks to the cooperation and investment of Chinese enterprises, more young people have the opportunity to receive rich educational resources.
