preface

What do you think island travel looks like?

Romantic and warm? Thrilling adventure? Close to nature? Nikko Beach?

Come to the Whitsundays in Queensland, Australia!

The 74 islands are like beautiful jade scattered in the world, and in each fragment lives a pure and spiritual spirit, guarding every inch of vegetation on the island and every creature in the sea.

From ancient tribesmen, to Captain Cook's visit in 1770, to the evolution into a resort in the seventies and eighties, elves know countless stories about humanity.

From a bonfire dance on a white paradise beach, to a marriage proposal by the pool at a luxury resort, to a night of revelry of young people atop a sailboat, elves witness every bloom in the world.

This fantastic secret in the middle of the Great Barrier Reef is a fantastic experience, everything you can imagine about the island, there is ~

About 99 percent of the people who have never heard of the Whitsunday Islands come to my check-in at the Beijing airport, and the ground staff ask me where my final destination is. The Whitsundays are tucked away among the many islands of the Great Barrier Reef. Often Chinese visit the Great Barrier Reef will fly to the famous Cairns, but this unknown Whitsunday Islands is a holiday paradise for locals.

Follow me "to the sky and into the sea", you will definitely plant grass in the secret place of this niche island of the Whitsundays.

"Spirit of the Wind"

In his heart lives a boy like a white sail

In everyone's heart lives a boy like a white sail, fantasizing about setting sail and being a sailor on an expedition. Finally, in the Whitsundays, setting sail from Airlie Beach, my sailing dream came true!

From the Carthaginians of ancient times, to Zheng He of the Ming Dynasty, to Columbus in the West, human love of the sea and desire to explore are in the same vein. In modern times, the use of navigation has been replaced by competition and entertainment, but people's inner pursuit of vast oceans and unknown areas is the same. In Queensland, Australia, sailing is not out of reach, but as common as our table tennis, badminton. Some schools also have sailing clubs, such as the SailingClub of the University of Queensland, where students are welcome to join the club to experience the joy of sailing, regardless of whether they have sailing experience.

Sailing on the Whitsundays

The Whitsundays are a paradise for nautical enthusiasts, both in terms of landscape beauty and safety. The advantage of sailing is that you can be the master of the itinerary, fully experience the interaction with the sea, and moor randomly for snorkeling or shore activities.

The sailboat I was riding on was called Waltzingmatilda, the name of Australia's most famous folk song, and the song Chinese translated as "Jungle Wandering". For the next two days and one night, the Waltz took me out of the dense city and enjoyed a quiet moment of sea life~

The boat can accommodate up to 14 passengers, so it will not feel crowded, and the spacious deck space is ample for passengers to sunbathe and enjoy the surrounding scenery~

Sailing on the Whitsundays

The fun of sailing lies in the unknown, unknown routes, unknown crews, unknown scenery, and more than a dozen "sailors" from all over the world to talk about the world is definitely a great pleasure~ The most speculative conversation is this couple from Amsterdam, they quit their original jobs and are ready to start a year's trip, Australia is their first stop, and then they will go to New Zealand and Asian countries. They plan to stop and go, stop to work and earn money when the travel funds are spent, and then continue on the road, maybe one day suddenly go home, maybe fall in love wherever they go and stay. I showed them a lot of Chinese scenery, and under my strong Amway, they put China on their travel list~

I've seen a lot of beautiful sunsets, but this day is probably the most special I've ever seen. Sitting on the edge of the boat, with laughter in your ears, the sea breeze blowing the ends of your hair, watching the sun set into the sea, everything around you is so harmonious.

Watching the sunset with a beer and a crooked nut on a sailboat is definitely one of the most memorable experiences in Queensland!

Heaven into the sea "Kun-style blue" Discover the Great Barrier Reef from the "heart" The true spirit of the Whitsundays

There's nothing more exciting than watching the sunset in such a secluded wonderland. When the sky changes in a symphony of rose, pink, taupe, and taro purple, the night in the Whitsundays is not far away. Our boat was moored in a sheltered cove with relatively small winds and waves, so the boat didn't rock too much.

This twelve-year-old girl from the United States is very interested in Chinese history and culture, and she took ancient Chinese history in school, and told me the history of a certain dynasty, so that I, a science student, have no place to be self-contained... Every time I pick up the camera to record a vlog and finish talking to the camera, she always asks me to translate into English and tell it to her, so sailing is still a good opportunity to practice English listening and speaking...

The Dutch guy had a tattoo on his ankle that was a Chinese character for "永", and I asked him why he had such a tattoo, and he said that this word did not mean infinity, forever, and he tattooed this tattoo with his half-sister, his older and his sister smaller. The meaning of this tattoo is that although they were not born to the same father, they will always love each other and will always be a family.

Don't be disappointed by the retreat of colour, as the night here is an unforgettable galactic starry sky and scented BBQ.

After enjoying a delicious barbecue meal, leaning on the bean bag on the deck with tea, and asking the captain if he could sleep on the deck, everyone found the most comfortable position, brought a blanket to cover their bodies, and decided to sleep in the open air tonight! The starry sky is the cover, the sea is the bed, this is an absolutely unique experience, after exploring the Coral Sea during the day, enjoy the sunset at dusk, the starry sky at night, and the silence after the hustle and bustle, from twilight to starlight.

The captain put a light in the water, and from time to time there were fish swimming around, so everyone was surprised by this small lamp, and created a new fish "Leaffish", which turned out to be a leaf floating over and was regarded as a fish.

Heaven into the sea "Kun-style blue" Discover the Great Barrier Reef from the "heart" The true spirit of the Whitsundays

I didn't take out my camera again, but quietly enjoyed the beauty of the moment. Use your phone's tape recorder to record your mood at the time:

"I'm lying on the deck of a sailboat now, and even though I've dropped anchor, the boat still sways a little bit, and I feel very much like lying in my mother's arms as a child. There are more than a dozen crooked nuts from different countries, and they are a group of social animals, chatting in groups of threes and threes. But they didn't understand me at all, and I could say whatever I wanted, which was really funny. Looking up at the starry sky of the southern hemisphere, we are now floating in the sea near the Great Barrier Reef, which feels so wonderful and romantic. This is my first voyage and liveaboard, although it is a person, but it is also very interesting, it is also a sailing dream for me, I hope there will be a next time, although I don't know where. It is rare to have such a free time, and the crooked nut has a ride without a chat with the sky, listening half-understand, back to the donkey's lips are not to the horse's mouth. Listening to the song they played, the temperature was just right, blowing the sea breeze, the whole person was completely relaxed, no network, no troubles, feeling that the whole person was emptied, really relaxed in a vacuum state, just want to lie down quietly all the time, occasionally like this and isolate from the outside world feels good. It was now nine o'clock in the evening, the lights on the ship had been turned off, and there were seven or eight people lying vertically on the deck next to it, with the feeling of a chase shop. The moonlight is like a night light, there is a little shimmer, but you can clearly see the stars in the night sky, I haven't gone to bed so early for a long time, but I am a little sleepy. It was the first time I had slept on deck, on a sailboat, in the open air, under the night sky, surrounded by the sea and schools of fish. I lay under the sails, and a person slept in the sails, that is, in the sails that stood up during the day to take pictures, and the sails were put away like a sleeping bag, and I didn't know if it was comfortable to sleep on it, and I didn't know if he would fall off to see if he could sleep on it all night. Accompanied by moonlight, stars, sea breeze, and fish, sleeping here is really more luxurious than the Super Seven Star Hotel..."

What wakes us up in the morning is the gentle sound of the waves and the pink sunrise, and when we open our eyes, the first thing we see is this view.

The captain saw everyone wake up one by one, walked over lightly, asked if they needed coffee, and went down to the cabin to bring us coffee. Drinking coffee and watching the sky get brighter, the sunrise on the sea, what kind of fairy life is this!

While everyone on board went into the water to snorkel, they finally had a chance to take out the drone and play. During the sailing process, due to the lack of deck space, the boat has been moving, there is a wind relationship, the drone is very difficult to take off and land, do not try easily. So drones can only be flown when sailing ships are moored.

I also came to take the helm, drove cars, planes, and boats, and now I am also an old driver of land, water and air!

"Spirit of Sand"

It turns out that this is what heaven really looks like

Whitehaven Beach is known as "Australia's most beautiful beach" and "the most environmentally friendly and cleanest beach in the world", ranking first in Australia's 100 beautiful beaches! There are no residents or hotels on it, and the white sand beach contrasts with the mangroves and blue waters of the coast to create a stunning view.

Heaven into the sea "Kun-style blue" Discover the Great Barrier Reef from the "heart" The true spirit of the Whitsundays

This pristine pure white beach stretches for 7 kilometers, the sand is all white, the sand is white, delicate and soft, 98% of the composition is silica, because it can not retain heat, so even in the hottest time, when other island beaches are exposed to the scorching sun and have nowhere to stay, Whitehaven Beach can dance comfortably~

It is uninhabited and has the purest white silica sand, which is the true appearance of heaven.

In order to protect the ecology, the white sand here is not allowed to be taken away, and if discovered, it will be subject to severe fines.

Heaven into the sea "Kun-style blue" Discover the Great Barrier Reef from the "heart" The true spirit of the Whitsundays

It is said that the white sand here also has the effect of healing scars, so you must try it when you come here!

A picnic on the white sand beach is really romantic~

Here the sand is fine, the water is clear, there is a large shallow area, you can play in the water without swimming~ There is also the opportunity to see turtles, manta rays, dolphins and other abundant marine life. I saw manta rays and baby sharks here, but I was afraid to see sharks, so I didn't get too close to take pictures.

Heaven into the sea "Kun-style blue" Discover the Great Barrier Reef from the "heart" The true spirit of the Whitsundays

Whitehaven Beach has shiny white silica sand, one of the purest sand in the world. With the clear blue water, it is definitely the most beautiful beach I have ever been to~

Coral Sea World hides the heart of the ocean

Nature plays romance, and no one can resist it. Who would have thought that a heart-shaped reef was hidden in the spectacular Great Barrier Reef complex? This is probably the girl's heart left by God in the southern hemisphere~ This miracle on earth was unintentionally created by millions of coral polyps only a few millimeters in diameter, and every time I think of this, I have to admire that nature also has its romance.

Heaven into the sea "Kun-style blue" Discover the Great Barrier Reef from the "heart" The true spirit of the Whitsundays

Heart Reef and its surrounding waters are protected by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Act and are not allowed to moor for boats or snorkeling. So the best way to get around is to fly over Heart Reef from the air. The best way to value for money is to take a scenic plane. The view from the windows of the aircraft is enough to enjoy the view.

Heaven into the sea "Kun-style blue" Discover the Great Barrier Reef from the "heart" The true spirit of the Whitsundays

The plane is small and can seat 12 people in total, so it may be bumpy when encountering airflow. The entire flight is one hour with scenery along the way. The coastline seen shortly after takeoff resembles a giant lung lobe.

The plane will fly over parts of the Whitsundays, including the famous Hayman Island, Hamilton Island, Lindeman Island, Daydream Island, Hook Island, etc., all of which are first-class tourist resorts in addition to their different shapes and sizes. Below is an airplane flying over Hamilton Island.

It is only when you go to the sea that you can play with the Great Barrier Reef of Hardy

The best way to see the Great Barrier Reef is to "go up to the sea". In the air, you can choose helicopters, observation planes, and seaplanes to overlook and feel the magic of nature; You can choose from cruises, snorkeling, diving and other close encounters with marine life and coral reefs. Hardy Great Barrier Reef Cruise Day Tour is the most popular choice~ Standing at the stern to watch the rolling waves and the surrounding scenery, the two-hour voyage does not feel long.

At 11 o'clock, arrive at the Hadi Great Barrier Reef offshore platform. You can snorkel, take a helicopter, ride a glass-bottomed semi-submarine and an underwater viewing platform.

You can also clearly see the fish and coral reefs through the glass, and as for what you can see, it depends on luck~

The Whitsundays are not very friendly to lone rangers, and many projects require a minimum of two people, such as the Great Barrier Reef Day Tour Program, which is good to be able to overlook the Heart Reef by helicopter on the Great Barrier Reef platform.

Heaven into the sea "Kun-style blue" Discover the Great Barrier Reef from the "heart" The true spirit of the Whitsundays

The look and view of the helicopter is indeed better than that of the observation aircraft, but the disadvantage is that it is not guaranteed to sit by the window, and the glass reflection is more serious.

Take a helicopter from the Great Barrier Reef platform to see the heart-shaped reef, the process takes less than ten minutes, the price is 150 Australian dollars, it is worth sitting and wondering.

After going to the sky, you also have to go down to the sea to play the Great Barrier Reef. In fact, I learned freediving and got a certificate, but in view of the first safety principle of freediving, you must have a dive partner present and not dive alone, so you only snorkel. Probably because there are more tourists, the coral reefs in this sea area are more seriously damaged. Stumble upon a heart-shaped coral ~

"Spirit of the Sun"

The sun is pouring into the city, and all the imagination of the color of the sea can be satisfied, as if the mischievous sun elf has overturned all the blue-green paint jars and splashed them on this sacred sea. Beyond the sea of the Whitsundays, you can have breakfast with koalas, walk in the jungle, picnic on the top of the mountain, attend a wedding with a sea view, take a walk by the sea...

A resort island where you can have breakfast with koalas

The largest resort island in the Whitsundays, Hamilton Island is a honeymoon destination and an outdoor lover's paradise.

If you haven't heard of the name Hamilton Island, you've heard of the world's most anticipated recruitment for the best job in the world - the Great Barrier Reef Keeper, the legendary Great Barrier Reef Island.

The island has the best viewpoint OneTree Hill, a church halfway up the mountain, the sea dotted with white sails, lush mountains and world-class resorts. But the most attractive thing for me was Hamilton Island Safari as it was a place to have breakfast with koalas! In addition, the zoo will arrange a fixed time every day for us to have the opportunity to take photos with koalas.

There are two koalas open in the koala restaurant, except for the one who just accompanied me to breakfast, this is the one who will be held by everyone for a group photo in a while. The koala is open for half an hour from 9:30 to 10:00 for a limited number of hours a day. This soul-destroying pose~

The posture of holding a koala is, ten fingers crossed, hands below the stomach, take the koala handed over by the staff, and let the koala's two front paws rest on the shoulder. The feel of the koala is not as soft and cute as expected, the hair is hard and short, but it is much heavier than expected, about more than ten pounds. Considering the usual food, eucalyptus leaves do not taste good, but there is no strange taste on it~

Airlie Beach, the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef

Compared to Cairns at the northern tip of the Great Barrier Reef, Airlie Beach is relatively unfamiliar to Chinese tourists, but it is more popular with locals and, like the Gold Coast, is a holiday destination for many Australians. Airlie Beach is located on the east coast of Queensland, in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef, and is the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef.
