Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, could earn a higher title than Princess Charlotte.
Princess Charlotte was the only daughter of Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge. The young Princess Charlotte and her parents and two brothers, Prince George and Prince Louis, have been living in norfolk Palace in her home. Archie currently lives in Los Angeles with her parents, Meghan and Harry. They moved in at the end of March after officially announcing that they would resign as senior members of the royal family.
But now it's been revealed that Princess Charlotte may not have been awarded a higher title than her cousin Archie.
Archie might one day get the title of duke from the monarch, but Charlotte wouldn't.
The rules of the hereditary aristocracy meant that although Archie's parents wanted to distance themselves from royal life, Archie would inherit his father's title of Duke of Sussex after Prince Harry's death.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliam previously said in an interview: "When Archie was born, Harry and Meghan did not want him to use the title, although he could have used his father's nickname, Earl of Dumbarton. ”
However, his parents wanted him to live as normal a life as possible and grow up as an ordinary citizen.
Archie is expected to grow up in the United States, and his views are likely to be consistent with those of his parents.
"They value independence more than the decoration of the royal family."
Princess Charlotte, however, could only receive the title of Duchess if she married a duke.
According to royal tradition, the ducal territory is allocated only to the male descendants of the royal family.
Princess Charlotte, however, could be given a title different from that of her father, Prince William.
Charlotte could earn the title of "Princess".
The title is currently held by Princess Anne. It was usually awarded to the eldest daughter of the king, and as the only daughter of the queen, it was automatically awarded to Anne.
Since Charlotte was the only daughter of Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge, she would one day inherit the title.
Royal writer Duncan Larcomb said: "Traditionally, the title of royal princess is conferred on the king's eldest daughter.
It was a lifelong title, so Princess Charlotte would at least have to wait until the current princess died.
Because the status of a princess is different from that of a duke, it is very likely that Princess Charlotte will be granted the status of nobility.
Royal historian Marlene Koenig said: "Now, in the context of gender equality, I think Charlotte is more likely to attain aristocratic status.
"Prince Louis gets one when he gets married, so it's only fair to get one on Charlotte's wedding day."
"She and her children will be ahead of Louis in succeeding to the throne."
