While completing the work related to epidemic prevention and control, the normal operation of the department is also steadily progressing.
The tail of 2022, with the adjustment of the epidemic prevention and control policy, under the call of the hospital party committee, we should collect and treat all the patients infected with the new crown virus, and the brothers and sisters of the department medical staff also successively developed symptoms of high fever and fatigue, but we did not flinch, the department director and the head nurse took the lead to rush to the front line, doing their best to deploy medical care, the doctor team also helped each other and took the initiative to undertake part of the nursing and treatment work, and the medical brothers and sisters whose symptoms improved slightly also chose to stay sick and insisted on working... In this way, we survived this difficulty and successfully got a high score in this epidemic exam!

The high-quality development of the department is inseparable from the continuous introduction of new technologies and new concepts into clinical work, and in 2022, we completed 2 first-in-hospital cases.
In March 2022, our department successfully resected a 70-year-old glioma tumor for a 70-year-old glioma patient using the "intraoperative arousal" technique, and successfully avoided the patient's postoperative neurological impairment (language and limb movement). This case is the first case in the hospital, filling the technical gap in intraoperative wake-up surgery in our hospital.
Patients are given psychological counseling to relieve tension before surgery, and awakening task training, including language, activities, writing and other training, and can cooperate to the greatest extent during surgery after being familiar with the process.
After surgery, patients do not develop neurological impairment (language loss and limb hemiplegia). The inability to speak before surgery is restored, fluent communication is possible, and limb function is good.
On September 25, 2022, Vice President Zhao Haikang, leader of the Department of Neurosurgery of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Medical College, led Wang Fenglu, director of neurosurgery, Zhang Liang, deputy director, and Wei Yao, attending physician, to successfully perform stereotactic implantation of deep brain electrode + pulse generator implantation (DBS surgery) for a Parkinson's patient with left upper limb trembling for more than 5 years. After the operation, the patient had no complications and came to our hospital on November 1 to start the program. After turning on the machine, the symptoms of shaking the left upper limb and difficulty walking were immediately relieved. The successful development of this operation fills the gap in the surgical treatment of Parkinson's disease in our hospital, marking a new level in the neurosurgery discipline of our hospital, and our hospital has a new choice of treatment options for Parkinson's disease patients in the future.
Through continuous technological innovation, our department has improved its diagnosis and treatment strength year by year, bringing good surgical results, relatively economical costs, and enthusiastic services to more patients around Xi'an and even inside and outside the province.
This year, we went to the grassroots level and organized 6 multidisciplinary joint community free clinics!
From June 25 to August 6, 2022, our department successfully organized and carried out 6 "Care for Health, Multidisciplinary Joint Community Free Consultation of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Medical College - and Shaanxi Youth Civilization 2022 Service Action" by taking advantage of the weekend. In addition to our neurosurgery, we also invite experts from neurology, traditional Chinese medicine, pediatrics, nutrition, gastroenterology, 120 pre-hospital emergency and other departments to enter the community and deliver intimate and professional free medical services to the people.

At the end of the year and the beginning of the year, we received the good news that we were selected as the "Neurosurgery Construction Center" of the National Health Commission for Capacity Building and Continuing Education! In November 2022, the Capacity Building and Continuing Education Center of the National Health Commission selected qualified medical institutions as neurosurgical construction centers nationwide to strengthen the construction of neurosurgical teams. A total of 779 applications for neurosurgery construction centers were received from relevant units, covering 30 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) across the country. After a 100-point evaluation from the level of the hospital, neurosurgical facilities and equipment, construction center setup and application type, medical work, teaching work, and scientific research work, our department was finally successfully selected.
