The Deep-Middle Passage is a super-large cross-sea cluster project integrating "bridges, islands, tunnels and underwater interconnection", with a total length of about 24 kilometers. The whole line surface paving includes steel bridge deck paving, concrete bridge deck paving, roadbed section pavement, tunnel pavement and related drainage engineering, immersed tunnel leveling layer, etc., which is constructed by the project department of S15 contract section of Poly Changshen Middle Channel Project.

The deep middle channel adopts 6 processes and 5 structural layers, including "steel bridge deck sandblasting and rust removal, epoxy zinc-rich paint, two epoxy resin bonding layers, and EA10 paving upper and lower layers", but the thickness is only 6.5 cm, and the process standard requirements and construction difficulty are extremely high.

Tang Lingwei, project manager of the S15 standard of the Poly Changshen Middle Passage Project, said that steel bridge deck paving has always been defined by the industry as the "crown jewel" in pavement engineering. Applying asphalt on smooth steel plates is like laying plasticine on a glass surface, which requires interlayer bonding and shear resistance while ensuring driving function and durability. At the same time, the connection and correlation requirements between various processes far exceed the ordinary asphalt concrete construction standards, and rigorous and scientific extreme leanness is required in all aspects such as construction process control, all-factor control and construction organization management.

Yang Donglai, deputy chief engineer of Poly, focused on the steel bridge deck paving process, he said that the steel bridge deck paving process is extremely harsh, in order to ensure the durability of the bridge deck, the construction process must be strictly controlled by oil and water, absolutely can not produce early diseases. Faced with the new challenges of large-scale paving of the steel deck of the deep-middle passage, high construction requirements, and the changeable climate and high temperature, high humidity and high salt offshore environment, the construction team developed three major systems: epoxy zinc-rich paint intelligent spraying system, epoxy resin intelligent painting system and epoxy resin automatic weighing and delivery system after nearly 9 months of planning and preparation, technical data support and experience accumulation in three test sections, and built an information platform integrating dynamic video and Beidou positioning, creating a precedent for mechanized and intelligent construction in all links. It greatly improves the construction efficiency.

The epoxy resin intelligent painting system developed and applied by the project team for the first time in the world replaces the traditional manual painting, with a single efficiency of 1500 square meters / hour, realizing the automatic production and painting of waterproof adhesive layer materials, and the construction efficiency and quality have reached the world's leading level.

Tang Lingwei introduced that on January 19, the project put into 48 sets of pavers, road rollers, transport vehicles, etc., and more than 160 on-site workers and management personnel to ensure that the construction process is well connected, the construction surface is formed at one time, and the construction requirements are met with excellent internal and external beauty, anti-corrosion and durability.

The steel bridge deck of the deep-middle channel is currently the world's largest epoxy asphalt paving construction, with a paving scale of 380,000 square meters, and a single day paving area of more than 22,300 square meters, equivalent to the size of 53 standard basketball courts, breaking the world record for asphalt concrete paving of the same type.
