Take advantage of IrfanView's new features to complete image editing

author:A playful software-loving weed

Image editing software such as Photoshop is very powerful, but for many ordinary users, such software is not so easy to use. Although IrfanView is a long-term image browser, it is not updated frequently, and it is constantly adding many new features including image editing and improving old ones. In fact, as long as you are proficient in using these new editing functions, you can complete some image editing operations very quickly.

First, complete the cutting accurately through the data

Sometimes it is necessary to crop the image in order to get a part of the content. However, in order to make the crop size more accurate, it is often necessary to use functions such as rulers. In fact, with the IrfanView tool, you can complete the cropping very accurately through the prompt information.

Firstly, click the "Open" button in the software toolbar and select the picture you want to crop in the pop-up dialog. When the image is loaded in the browse window, drag and drop to create a selection box. When we drag and drop the mouse, we can see two sets of data on the title bar of the software. The first set of data represents the coordinate position of the current mouse, while the second set of data represents the size of the selection box, and the selection range can be well controlled by using this set of data (Figure 1).

When the selection box is created, you can use the mouse to drag the border to fine-tune the size, and use the arrow keys in the keyboard to move the position of the selection box. When all the conditions are met, click the Crop Selection command in the Edit menu to crop the content outside the selection box, so that only the content in the selection box is preserved. Finally, click the "Save As" button in the toolbar, and a save options dialog box will pop up in the pop-up dialog box, in which you can set the quality of the saved picture (as shown in Figure 2), and then click the "Save" button to save the operation.

Second, put together multiple pictures seamlessly

In addition to cropping the image, we sometimes need to stitch together multiple different image materials to form a completely new image. However, a lot of preparation is often required in the process of stitching, and IrfanView can automatically complete the synthesis of stitching.

First, we use IrfanView to open the image material to be stitched, and then select one of the images as the benchmark for stitching. Then select another image to be stitched, click the "Copy" button in the toolbar, and then switch to the operation interface of the base chart. Click the "Special Paste" command in the "Edit" menu and select Paste from the submenu to the desired location (Figure 3). After the pasting is completed, you can see that the height or width of the pasted image material will be adjusted based on the base image, so as to achieve equal scale reduction or enlargement, which can make the stitching operation easier and faster.

Third, rotate the degree of the picture more accurately

When we edit pictures, we often need to rotate the pictures. However, since the rotation operation is done manually, it is impossible to accurately grasp the degree of rotation. While some software can set rotations, but only 90 degrees and 180 degrees, IrfanView allows users to customize the number of rotations, which allows for more accurate rotation control.

First click the "Image" menu command in the software operation interface, and you can see the "Rotate Left" and "Rotate Right" commands in the pop-up menu. But both commands follow the traditional method to complete the 90-degree rotation operation. If we want to customize the rotation settings, then click on the "Custom/Precise Rotation" command below. A dialog box will pop up, find the "Angle" option in it, and enter the corresponding rotation degree in it. The "Angle" option ranges from -360 degrees to 360 degrees, for example, if we enter -45 here, it means a 46-degree counterclockwise rotation to the left. If 38 is entered, this represents a 38-degree rotation of the right clockhand (Figure 4). Whenever we enter the required rotation degree, we can observe the corresponding effect in real time in the preview window on the right side of the dialog box, and click the OK button below directly after being satisfied to complete the operation accurately (as shown in Figure 5).

4. Add a color border to the picture

Sometimes after editing the image, we want to add a color border to the image, so that the picture can look more three-dimensional. In the past, it was cumbersome to perform similar operations, but now using this software with ready-made templates, it can be done in just a few simple steps.

We first open the image we want to add a border to, and then click on the "Add Border" command in the "Image" menu. In the list on the left side of the pop-up dialog, there are a large number of ready-made border templates, from which you can choose a style that the user likes. If the user is not satisfied with the size of the border, they can modify it as needed in the "Frame size:" area. Whenever the user makes a setting, the preview effect can be displayed in the upper right corner of the dialog box in real time, so as to help the user better set and adjust.

If the user is not satisfied with the color of the border, then you can click the "Choose" button after the "Frame colors" area and select a color in the pop-up dialog box. Each sub-option in this area can be set to a different color system, so that once the setting is completed, you can see a color gradient and layered effect (Figure 6). When all operations are complete, click the OK button to return to the software's browse window. Finally, click the "Save As" button in the toolbar to save it.

5. Divide into rows and columns and export

We often need to cut the picture, but sometimes we need to complete a special cut, that is, cut it in an equal proportion. This puts forward high requirements for the user's accuracy, and now this tool only needs to set the number of segments, which can be easily achieved in this way.

First load the image to be cut in the software, then click the "Export Image Puzzle (Split Image)" command in the "Options" menu. Find the "Number of Puzzle Pieces" option in the pop-up dialog box, in which you set the row and column numbers you want to split (as shown in Figure 7). Next, click the "Browse" button after saving the folder, and set a folder directory for the split picture in the pop-up list. Then set the file format used by the split picture in the "Save as" list, and then click the "Options" button behind to set the attribute information of the image. When all the parameters are set, click the "Start" button to perform the split operation in equal proportions. The split picture will be renamed in a way such as 1x1, 1x2, 2x1, so that we can easily understand the location of the picture in the original image.
