"This year, the weather is warm, there is no snow, the temperature is high, the climate is also dry, the fire risk factor is high, and during the New Year's Day, the number of people entering the mountains and forests has increased, and we must patrol several times a day, so we must not let the forest have problems." Duan Jinlong said while not forgetting to walk through the weed-strewn forest.
Duan Jinlong is over 70 years old this year, now a full-time forest ranger of Dongfeng Forest Farm in Fuping County, Baoding City, Hebei Province, he not only has 32 years of party experience, but also worked in the forest protection and fire prevention post for 32 years, 32 years as a day, put all his deep affection for green to Weiwei Qingshan, protected the safety of forest resources in more than 3,000 acres of forest area of Shenxian Mountain Forest Farm, created a miracle of 32 years of forest fire prevention in the responsibility area, and made extraordinary achievements in ordinary posts. Shenxian Mountain Forest Area is located 35 kilometers north of Fuping County, Baoding City, Hebei Province, at the junction of Fuping, Laiyuan and Tang Counties at the eastern foot of the northern end of Taihang Mountain, belonging to the ancient North Yue Heng Mountain, the highest point is 1869.8 meters above sea level. Long-term patrolling the forest and protecting trees has made the 70-year-old man have a deep affection for every grass and tree on the mountain of more than 3,000 acres, so he takes the mountain forest as his home, takes the forest protection and green protection as his mission, sticks to his post, is willing to stay lonely, and has fun in pain, with his 32 years of persistence and sweat, in exchange for 32 years of "zero accidents" in the Shenxian Mountain forest area.
At the end of January 2017, also during the Spring Festival, high temperature, dry, windy, to the forest fire prevention brought great difficulties, coupled with the gradual increase of villagers and tourists burning incense to play, to the forest area fire prevention brought a lot of unstable and unsafe factors, Duan Jinlong resolutely gave up the opportunity to get together with his family, ate and lived in a simple stone house on the mountain all day, guarded the mountain and forest day and night, discouraged more than 300 villagers from burning incense and smoking cigarettes every day, stopped more than 200 people from entering the forest, and distributed more than 1,000 copies of propaganda slogans. Eliminating more than 10 fire hazards of various kinds ensured that there was not a single fire danger in the forest area during the entire Spring Festival, and he himself was about to become a "wild man", and the villagers and his family almost could not recognize him when he went down the mountain, which also became a very proud "big event" in his work experience.

When you are bored, go for a walk in the mountains, go into the forest to take a look, feel that your efforts are worth it, and you will not feel lonely. Duan Jinlong said with a smile on his face, although the years left many marks on his face, the orange forest protection fire suit on his body accompanied his sonorous and powerful steps, becoming a different scenery in the deep mountains and dense forests.
The forest area of Shenxian Mountain is high, dense, steep and rocky, and Duan Jinlong, who enters and exits the mountains and forests every day, either wears through the soles of his shoes, or hangs his clothes, and thick cocoons are also worn on his hands and feet, but it does not stop his firm steps, and this step he takes is more than 11,000 days. In October 2019, when the county forestry bureau inspected forest fire prevention, he came to the defense area where Duan Jinlong was defying, and was very satisfied with his forest protection and fire prevention work, affirmed his dedication, praised him as the most reliable and trustworthy person at the grassroots level, and calculated an account for him according to Duan Jinlong's daily routine mountain patrol time and route, more than 30 kilometers a day, and a total of nearly 300,000 kilometers in 30 years. In October of this year, his family also made an account, wearing a pair of military rubber shoes a month, and he has worn nearly 400 pairs in 32 years. Duan Jinlong did not calculate these small accounts, he calculated the big account of protecting forest resources.
When it comes to patrolling the forest, Duan Jinlong has a lot to say. Forest fire protection is a big thing, only by turning around and seeing, I feel solid in my heart, and it is nothing to be tired and tired. The most difficult patrol is at night, the road is not good, easy to slip, not to mention, and often by branches to scratch the face, sweep to the eyes, which he does not care, all with a dedication and courage to the cause to the present. In late December 2009, when it was cold, he was walking in the forest with a flashlight and ran out of electricity, and he happened to be in the depths of the dense forest, and he could not turn around, so he could only sit on the weeds near minus 20 degrees Celsius until the sky was slightly light and dragged his almost numb body to continue patrolling the forest, which was just a common thing in his eyes.
One night in late July 2003, Duan Jinlong was stationed in a stone house on the top of the mountain as usual, a rainstorm and lightning raid, in order to protect the safety of the radio relay station, he quickly rushed to the wall to pull the electric gate, but at the moment of pulling, he was knocked unconscious by lightning, thanks to the next morning a villager went up the mountain to find him, and even pushed the ground to wake him up. After waking up, Duan Jinlong felt weak, numb, nausea and vomiting, so he had to "climb" down the mountain, and he "climbed" for 4 hours during the usual 40-minute walk. When he got home, he curled up on the kang and repeatedly told his wife to go up the mountain on duty and not to report to the organization. Duan Jinlong survived like this for 2 days, and the numbness of his body gradually disappeared, and he couldn't wait to return to the mountain on the third day. One day when he couldn't see the forest, he felt unsteady in his heart.
A simple lunch in the Golden Dragon Forest
"If I don't go to the forest protection area for a day, my heart is like grass, I can't eat or drink well, the trees are closer than my son, he likes to do his "big business", he has never said that he is tired and tired, our whole family understands that he supports him," Duan Jinlong's lover, Hu Xiaoclown, said calmly.
For more than 30 years, Duan Jinlong's family has been very supportive of his work. He spent less than half a year reunited with his lover and children, and most of the time he was in the stone house on the mountain, and Duan Jinlong would also take advantage of the fact that there was no forest and no danger to go home to see. His children witnessed the process of trees growing tall and greening with him, but they never complained about him, because they knew that their father and the mountain forest had a deep relationship and would not give up easily. Perhaps in the eyes of other villagers, this is just an ordinary job, but in the hearts of him and his family, this job is more of a responsibility and responsibility.
Around 2000, the village saw that he was working too hard to patrol the forest, and when it was rainy and snowy, he had nowhere to hide, so he built a very simple stone house on the top of the mountain for him to temporarily rest, look at the mountain forest and report on the forest patrol, which provided him with great convenience in taking care of the forest. That autumn was windy, warm and dry weather, in order to better protect the forest, he simply took rice and pickles and bedding to live in a stone house, but he did not expect that this residence would be more than 20 years, and the stone house became his second home.
Duan Jinlong usually eats and lives on the mountain, but only goes down the mountain when there is no rice and salt or there is a big event at home, and when he goes up the mountain, he also has to carry rice, pickles, potatoes, etc. that can eat for half a month, there is no water on the mountain, he has to go through the forest to the other side of the mountain every five or six days to carry 50 pounds of mountain spring water to cook, and it takes more than two hours to go back and forth..., this finally failed to stump Duan Jinlong, he silently survived and held the position.
In October 2018, suddenly there was heavy snowfall, he ran out of food on the mountain, ate a little noodles in 3 days, there was no water, so he melted snow to cook, until the family under the mountain was afraid that something would happen to him, shoveled a snow road up the mountain to bring him food, did not know this situation, but he happily told his family that with this mountain of heavy snow, the forest would not catch fire, and he only saw the forest and not himself.
