He admonished Zeng Guofan to be a good official by standards: integrity and temperance, no grandstanding, no unconventional, and no deviation. Do not seek selfish interests, let the people be stable, and the emperor can rest assured.
Zeng Guofan remained unswerving, and Mu Chang'a strongly recommended Zeng Guofan to the Daoguang Emperor. The Daoguang Emperor read Zeng Guofan's examination papers: no feelings, plain as water, but clear and accessible.
So Daoguang issued an edict and ordered the Hanlin Courtyard to be registered the day before, Zeng Guofan finally entered the Hanlin Courtyard.
