Foreigners often think Chinese "sneaky". I don't know how this came about. To my surprise, during my 10-day trip deep into the heart of China, I didn't encounter any dangerous or embarrassing situations. It's very safe and the people are very honest. At night in Europe, in a city like Paris, you can feel very unsafe. It happened, and hordes of single men gathered to intimidate random people. In Italy and Spain, your bags will be stolen. In China, this is not far from it. Everyone was very honest with us. There are cases where people can easily deceive us without much effort, but they never do, not even taxi drivers. Chinese is remarkable.
China is so polluted that in big cities you can see the pollution with your eyes. Also, it is common for Chinese to spit on the street and spit out the intestines. This is scary for foreigners. But it's amazing how green China is when it comes to vegetation. They pay a lot of attention to beauty and the city park is simply stunning. Everywhere is green, beautiful, big. There is a huge contrast between the air pollution and the beauty and cleanliness of the park.
Some have pointed out in their comments that when you leave the big cities, a lot of China is clearly underdeveloped. While this is true, I have a very subtle opinion on this. First, from a statistical point of view, China is the country in the world that has raised the largest number of poor people to the middle class in the shortest period of time.
